Important Safety Reminders - Bicycle, Scooter, Electric/Motorized Devices at Butler

An Important Message from our Highland Crossing Guard, Miss Barbara:

"As a crossing guard, I have noticed that some students are crossing the street while riding bicycles, scooters, and other wheeled devices on their way to school.

For the safety of the children, motorists, and myself, I have reminded some students to dismount and walk their bicycles, scooters, skateboards, or similar devices when crossing the street. This helps ensure that crossings are made safely and allows me and drivers to better anticipate student movements.

I would appreciate any assistance the New Britain Township Police Department, Butler School, and the children's families can provide in speaking with the students for the safety of all!"

Butler Community Support Opportunity - Caring for Friends Organization

Our school community is invited to support Caring for Friends, a nonprofit organization that delivers meals and companionship to seniors, veterans, and individuals with disabilities. Through weekly meal deliveries and friendly visits, the organization helps address both food insecurity and social isolation.

On October 18, Caring for Friends will host a FREE Family Pumpkin Carving and Thanksgiving Food Drive. Families are encouraged to come together for a fun community event while helping collect Thanksgiving food donations for those in need. The event will be held in the St. Jude parking lot and will move indoors if there is inclement weather.

Although the event is free, organizers ask families to register in advance to help with planning and attendance. Community members who need food assistance can also connect with Caring for Friends through their resources and support services.

CB Cell Phone/SMART Watch/Personal Device Policy

When in school, personal student cell phone/SMART Watch/device usage are to be silenced and remain in backpacks during the school day. In some instances, students need their device to monitor health status through each day, and this will remain in place. However, should there be a need for any student/home communication, it will take place with the support of the teacher/school office during the school day. These district expectations have been shared with students, and we appreciate your support with your children as we navigate each school day.

Visiting Author - Debbie Debrovner 4th & 5th Grades

On October 1st, Butler was excited to host visiting author, Diane Debrovner, a middle grade author, who shared her story, Roxie in Color! It is from dual perspectives, one from the main character Roxie (a 7th grader) and her mother's seeing-eye dog, Nash! Debbie was the former deputy editor of Parents magazine and author of the article “What Blind Parents Want You to See,” which provided the spark for her novel, Roxie. In her presentation, Mrs. Debrovner shared various aspects of the writing process, what it is like to be an author, and the difficulties blind individuals might have in life - but how they overcome their disabilities. Her story focuses on a child blending in at a new school, making friends, and growing up with two blind parents.

Girl Scout Troop #2508 - Bronze Award for Butler!

Butler School would like to recognize and thank Girl Scout Troop #2508 for their efforts beginning last winter/spring! In seeing how Ashley's Garden was in need of a roof repair and painting, the troop designed a plan, fundraised, gathered the supplies, and rebuilt the roof's structure! With the approval of the Tomlinson family (former Butler Principal), the project took several months and lots of coordination. The troop's team, consisting of twelve former Butler students (and parents), worked across many weekends and evenings to provide this area the attention it deserves - and the results are incredible!

Additionally, these Butler Bears also provided our school with needed recess storage containers - supporting our recess staff in moving recess supplies in and out of the building. Working on several ideas, the group finalized a plan, purchased the items, and decorated in Butler Colors! It has been a huge support with recesses to begin this year!

Thanks again to Girl Scout Troop #2508
