Welcome to Week 2!

Dear Sumner Danbury Families,

Last week was such an exciting week here at Sumner Danbury Elementary as we welcomed back our students for the start of the new school year. The walkways were filled with smiles, laughter, and a sense of anticipation as our students returned excited and ready to learn. We couldn't be prouder of how our students are adjusting to the school year, and we are confident that this year will be full of growth, learning, and unforgettable experiences.

Our Back to School Night was a huge success. It was heartwarming to see so many parents and guardians excited to meet our dedicated teachers and staff. The positive energy and enthusiasm in each room were truly exhilarating. During Back to School Night our teachers had the opportunity to discuss classroom procedures, curriculum details, and expectations for the school year. We strongly believe that open communication between home and school is vital for your child’s success, and this event served as a platform to nurture that connection. We sincerely appreciate your involvement in your child’s education and thank you for taking the time to attend this important event.

Thank you once again for being an integral part of the Sumner Danbury Elementary School community. Your involvement and support are invaluable to us, and we look forward to partnering with you throughout this school year.

Warm regards,

Elisabeth Jones

Parking Lot Procedures

There is no parking in either of our parking lots on Sumner Ave. and Lynoak Dr. except for staff and those with Accessible parking permits.

Students and adults are not allowed to walk through either of the parking lots unless permitted to park there.

Sumner Avenue Drive Through Lane for Drop Off & Pick Up

1. Once you enter the Drive Through Lane (Sumner Ave.), you must stay in the lane until the exit. No vehicles may cut in or out of the lane unless directed to do so by the staff. Staff will move the traffic through the lane as quickly as possible. We ask for your patience in understanding there may be delays as parents wait for students to get to their cars.

2. When you enter the parking lot, move as far forward as possible to allow as many cars as possible to enter the lot. Continue to move forward as space permits. In general, students will be waiting on the north side of the stairs in front of the MPR.

3. Load and unload your car as quickly as possible, and use the passenger side of your vehicle to pick up and drop off. This helps to keep children safe and to keep the traffic moving through the parking lot. Drivers should NOT get out of cars when in the drive through lane. Any car that is holding up the flow of traffic for an unreasonable period of time must exit and park or re-enter the drop off / pick up zone.

4. When leaving the Sumner Ave. parking lot, you must make a right turn only and proceed north on Sumner Ave. To avoid traffic issues, Claremont Police Department has determined this flow of traffic in one direction only.

5. Students and adults are not allowed to walk through either of the parking lots at any time unless they are parked in the Accessible spaces or are staff (who may have their own children with them). Walking through the parking lot is a safety hazard.

6. The service gate north of the MPR (Sumner Ave.) is not to be used as an entrance or exit at any time.

Lynoak Drive

1. This parking lot is for buses, staff, and those with Accessible parking permits only.

2. The large part of the lot and curbside directly in front of the office is for buses only. Our buses are on strict time schedules. Please be aware and do not impede their entry/exit of the parking lot.

3. Most of our students using ambulatory supports (wheelchairs, walkers, adult assistance) use this parking lot and entry to our school. Please be courteous and careful, offering the right of way to our friends who are working hard to get where they are going.

4. State Preschool parents must park on neighboring streets, walk their student to the Preschool Entrance Gate, and sign them in. Do not attempt to park in the parking lot unless you need a Handicapped space. Lastly, please be respectful of our neighbors. Do not block driveways or use them to turn around in the street. And remember, patience and safety go hand in hand.
