SPHS Update

December 3rd, 2023

SPHS Update December 3rd, 2023

SPHS Community,

December.... that was fast! I hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving holiday break.

Over the next couple of weeks, I'm looking forward to having the opportunity to see the outstanding performances of our instrumental and vocal music students. It all starts on Tuesday, December 5th at 7pm with our Band concert, and the following week brings the Vocal music concert on December 12th, also at 7pm.

It's hard to believe, but were just about halfway through the second quarter with progress reports being posted on Infinite Campus by Friday, December 7th . Remember that the SPHS eligibility rules requires that any student participating must be passing five courses at the end of each quarter. Now is the time to think about what students need to do to get there.

Remember that we've got an early release on Wednesday this week to allow for Professional Learning for our staff.

Take care and be well,

Scott Tombleson (He/Him/His - What is this?)

Redbank Community Center - SoPo Teen Center Registration Redbank Community Center - SoPo Teen Center Registration

The Teen Center is a program for Middle School and High School Students (grades 6-12) who live in South Portland and/or attend school in South Portland. The South Portland Teen Center’s mission is to provide a comfortable, safe and fun environment for teens. As such, each teen is held responsible for their behavior.

Respect for the Redbank Community Center facility, other teen participants and program staff/volunteers is required of everyone. All students who want to have access to the Teen Center must fill out the registration packet and have all sections signed by a parent/guardian. We recently had our Teen Center registrations translated into Spanish, French, and Portuguese to make it easier for families to sign their kids up.

French Music Fun French Music Fun

French Club and French V students were thrilled to spend a morning immersed in the upbeat hip hop music of LeFlo Franco during a recent concert at Noble High School. Le Flo Franco, a Franco-Ontarian rapper of Haitian origins, delivered passionate, affirming lyrics that conveyed his love of music, life, and young people to his signature pop-electro beat. So energizing!

LeFlo, ambassador of Francophonie, won the 2023 Manie Musicale. Manie Musicale is a competition where students vote on their favorite French songs from a field of sixteen. The songs are chosen from French-speaking artists from around the world. The songs are all current popular music and are appropriate for middle and high school. It is open to students whose teachers have signed their school up. SPHS students will participate in March 2024. Manie Musicale was started by two Maine teachers of French. Here is last year’s Manie Musicale playlist.
