Meet the School Ministry Team: Becky Newquist
The St. John's School Ministry Team, similar in function to a school board, provides accountability and advisory support, guiding school policies and strategic planning to assist the principal and leadership team in upholding the school's spiritual, academic, and financial goals.
Mrs. Newquist joined the St. John’s community in 2022. She is a licensed clinical social worker with a passion for integrating faith and mental health to help individuals achieve wholeness. Becky divides her time between her private practice and her role as the Children's Ministry Director at Hope Church Denver, where she has been an active member for 16 years. Her greatest joy is being a mother to Claire (7) and Thomas (4), alongside her husband, Jason. The Newquists cherish their community, enjoy nature, and love riding their bikes as often as possible.
Our school community is blessed to have Becky's experience and passion on our team.
Notes
Science Bee: Denver Regional Tournament
St. John’s will be hosting a Regional Championship on Saturday, February 1st!
This in-person, buzzer-based competition will be similar to the practice sessions your students have been attending during class and after school. The event promises to be an exciting and competitive experience as students from across the area come together to showcase their knowledge and skills.
St. John’s will proudly have 11 students competing from grades 5 through 8. With the addition of several new schools joining this year, we anticipate a fantastic and dynamic event that will highlight the talent and dedication of all participants.
We are so proud of our students and can’t wait to see them shine on this special day. Thank you for your continued support in making opportunities like this possible for our community.
St. John's Spelling Bee 2025
We’re excited to announce that the annual St. John’s Spelling Bee will take place on Wednesday, February 5, at 9:10 a.m. in the Worship Center. Participation is open to 5th through 8th grade students. Middle School participation is optional
If your student is interested in competing, please complete this form by Friday, January 24. Mrs. Lohmann will determine the top 3 spellers in 5th grade. Once submissions are reviewed, more details will be communicated, including word lists and key dates, with students and parents.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Mrs. Sheppard. We’re looking forward to another fantastic event!
Art Helpers Needed
We are thrilled to share that our Spring Social is set for Saturday, April 12th at Bigsby's Folly, and planning is already underway!
As part of this special event, our amazing Art Teacher, Sherrie Stewart, will be guiding our students in creating collaborative art projects that will be featured in our silent auction. These projects will be completed during class time, alongside their regular art curriculum and individual assignments.
To make this possible, we are seeking a volunteer to lend an extra set of hands and eyes to help Sherri manage these wonderful projects. No art experience is necessary—just a willingness to assist and enjoy the creative process with our students!
If you’re interested in volunteering, please visit the Sign-Up Genius to secure your spot.
Thank you for helping make our Spring Social a success—we couldn’t do it without your support!
Pennies vs. Silver Coins War
We’re pleased to announce a special activity happening during National Lutheran Schools’ Week (Jan. 27-31): the Pennies vs. Silver War!
Here’s how it works:
Silver coins (nickels, dimes, quarters) earn positive points for your student’s class.
Pennies count as negative points and can be used to sabotage other classes!
Each morning, Monday through Thursday, students can drop their coins into class jars between 8:00 and 8:15 AM. On Friday, the totals will be calculated, and the winning class will be announced. The class with the most points will win an exciting prize, but the real reward is that all money raised will go to support Love India—a truly meaningful cause close to St. John’s heart.
Start gathering your coins now and join us in this fun, friendly competition! Let’s make a big difference together.
Thank you for your support, and may the best class win.

Chapel Offering Focus (January)
This December and January, we are collecting monetary donations for the Colorado Family Life Center in Aurora. This faith-based organization is dedicated to helping moms and dads raise their children in nurturing, loving, and safe ways.
Your generosity will make a meaningful impact on the lives of families in need. We also encourage you to involve your children in this act of giving by challenging them to contribute from their own savings. It's a wonderful opportunity to teach the value of compassion and sharing.
Thank you for considering a donation and for supporting this important cause.

Epiphany: A Celebration of Revelation
Epiphany is a cherished holiday that commemorates the revelation of Jesus, born on Christmas, as true God through His works, life, and resurrection. It is closely tied to the story of the three Magi, who followed the star to meet the Messiah. The star's appearance to the Magi revealed that Jesus, the Savior of Israel, was sent for all people. This celebration reminds us that the Great Light shining on us is meant for everyone.
