Staff Picks

The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell - if you love psychological thrillers, here is your summer beach read! Twenty-five years ago, police were called to 16 Cheyne Walk with reports of a baby crying. When they arrived, they found a healthy ten-month-old happily cooing in her crib in the bedroom. Downstairs in the kitchen lay three dead bodies, all dressed in black, next to a hastily scrawled note. And the four other children reported to live at Cheyne Walk were gone. Twenty-five years later, Libby Jones discovers she is that baby, and the sole inheritor of the long abandoned mansion located in a fashionable London neighborhood on the Thames. Everything is about to change for Libby, and she is now on a collision course to meet the other mysterious missing members of that household, and discover 16 Cheyne Walk's dark secrets. A truly can't put down novel by a master of suspense! - Debbie Hibbard, Circulation & Marketing Librarian

Marvel Civil War (#1-7) by Mark Millar & Steve McNiven and Civil War: Captain America/Iron Man by Ed Brubaker & Brian Michael Bendis - comic fans - did you know Kentucky Libraries Unbound has your favorite Marvel stories available? The Captain America collection contains a more in-depth look at the relationship and conflict of the two main characters - Tony Stark and Steve Rogers. As a Marvel fan, Tracey recommends reading both collections for a richer experience. - Tracey Mania, Kentucky Talking Books Librarian

Broken (in the Best Possible Way) by Jenny Lawson - written by the New York Times bestselling author of Furiously Happy and Let's Pretend This Never Happened, Jenny Lawson writes in a deeply relatable way with humor and honesty about her struggles with physical illness, depression and anxiety. Both hysterically funny and heartbreaking at the same time - Barbara Penegor, Kentucky Talking Books Branch Manager
