Reminder: No School Tuesday, Sept 23

There will be no school on Tuesday, September 23 in observance of Rosh Hashanah.

We wish all who celebrate a happy and meaningful holiday.

Thank you to all who joined us for our PTO meeting this week — we had a great turnout! Your input is incredibly valuable, and we appreciate the time you take to support our school community.

Here are a few highlights from our discussion:

  • Title I Grant Review: Parents provided feedback on how to best use funds to support students. Our major focus areas are:

    • Promoting and improving student attendance

    • Targeted supports for our language learners, helping them succeed and test out of ACCESS

  • Upcoming Events: We previewed activities such as Raffle Night this Friday and the upcoming dances, and conference treat event.

  • Celebrations & Growth: We shared positive updates on student academic growth and reviewed our 5Essentials survey results.

  • Feedback Conversations: Parents shared perspectives on the new schedule, devices, Skyward fees/processes, and upcoming school dances. We will continue to use this feedback to guide improvements.

  • Parent Involvement: There are many opportunities to get involved in upcoming events and activities — we’d love to see you participate!

  • Fall Goal-Setting Conferences: Conference scheduling opens this Friday at 8:00 AM through Skyward.

Have a wonderful weekend, and thank you for partnering with us to support every Firebird. Be sure to check out the rest of this newsletter for all the amazing things happening here at Friendship next week!

Empowering Your Child’s Emotional Well-Being

Panorama SEL Survey – This Wednesday

On Wednesday during SEL WIN Time, students will take the Fall Panorama Survey.

The Panorama Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Questionnaire helps us better understand and support your child’s emotional well-being. It looks at areas like mindsets, behaviors, and attitudes that are connected to success in school and beyond.

The results help us:

  • Identify students who may need additional support.

  • Build a stronger sense of belonging and resilience.

  • Ensure every student has a positive school experience.

Thank you for partnering with us as we continue to support both the academic and emotional growth of our students.

Attendance & Tardy Expectations

Being on time is essential for your child’s success. We are reinforcing expectations for arriving to school and class on time, and there will now be consistent follow-up and consequences.

Why It Matters

  • Students who arrive on time maximize their learning and build strong habits for success.

  • Punctuality helps create a positive and focused classroom environment.

School Arrival Tardies

  • Parents will be notified if students are frequently tardy to school.

  • Continued tardiness may result in:

    • Developing a success plan with staff

    • Missing lunch with peers

    • After-school detention to make up missed academic time and complete goal-setting

Class-to-Class Tardies

  • Teachers will reach out regarding tardies between periods.

  • 3+ tardies in a week: Teacher-determined consequence

  • 5+ tardies in a week: Administrative consequence

Hallway Sweeps

  • To prepare students, hallway sweeps are being conducted.

  • Students not in class on time during sweeps may receive an immediate consequence.

How You Can Help

  • Remind your student to arrive on time to school and every class period.

  • Encourage them to keep materials organized so they’re ready to learn.

Thank you for your support in helping students build responsible and successful habits!

Attendance Awareness Month

September is Attendance Awareness Month, and this year our district has joined Attendance Works’ national campaign Here Today, Ready for Tomorrow. Daily attendance is one of the most important ways to help your child succeed.

Did you know missing just two days a month can add up to nearly a month of lost learning in a year? You can find resources and tips from Attendance Works to help your child build strong attendance habits.

Thank you for helping your child show up every day - it builds good habits, friendships, and learning. Together, we can make every day count!
