Nike Weekly Scout Report
December 4, 2025
We sure kicked off the month with a bang—our first inclement weather day of the year! It’s hard to believe, but we only have 11 more school days until Winter break. Let’s finish strong and have some fun along the way!
This week, students have been working hard on their I-Ready skills. Be sure to ask them about the Christmas trees they’ve been earning—they’re very proud of them!
There are so many exciting things happening around Pacific this weekend to celebrate the holiday season! Check out the details below to see all the fun events taking place. 🎄✨
Nike PTO is sponsoring Snowballs With Santa on Saturday, December 13. This is a fun event that the whole family is welcome to attend. Please RSVP via the half sheet that went home in Thursday folders asap. See below for more information.
🌦️ Weather Reminder: As we move into colder months, please remember to check the weather forecast daily and send your child with a coat, hat, and gloves when needed. Our students spend time outside each day as long as the weather allows, and we want everyone to stay warm and comfortable!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out via email or call the office.

"Balloons Over Broadway" at Nike Elementary
What an exciting time at Nike Elementary! After reading Balloons Over Broadway: The True Story of the Puppeteer of Macy’s Parade together in their classrooms, students took their creativity home and designed their very own parade balloons. Families joined in the fun as students engineered colorful, imaginative creations to share with the whole school.
The grand finale came during our “Balloons Over Broadway” parade, where students proudly marched through the halls showcasing their hard-work and creativity. The energy was sky-high, and the smiles were unforgettable!
A huge thank-you to all the spectators who lined the gym and helped make this celebration extra special. Your support made the day truly magical!
Nike's November Assembly
Nike Elementary held our monthly assembly this past week. During the assembly, Dr. Tollison and our student leaders introduced the word of the month. November’s word is perseverance. The meaning of perseverance is keep trying when things get tough.
Our students performed a short skit to demonstrate what perseverance looks and sounds like in real life. Each month, several students are also recognized by staff members for showing strong character. In addition, we celebrate classes for achievements such as good hallway behavior, the cleanest classroom, best cafeteria manners, and best attendance.
These assemblies are something our students look forward to—they give us a chance to come together as a school community and start the month off right.
Be sure to ask your student about the assembly and see if they can tell you what perseverance means!

Reminders From Nurse Jenny
🌟 Friendly Reminders for Parents & Guardians 🌟
As the weather gets colder, please make sure your child comes to school dressed in appropriate winter clothing—coats, hats, gloves, and anything else that keeps them warm during recess and arrival/dismissal times.
We also ask that each student brings a water bottle to school every day. Staying hydrated helps them stay focused and ready to learn!
Thank you for helping keep our students comfortable, healthy, and prepared!
🌟 Nike Elementary Parents — We Need YOU! 🌟
Did you know that every bit of involvement in the Nike Elementary PTO makes a huge difference for our students? Whether you have a little time or a lot, your help brings more fun events, more support for teachers, and more memorable experiences for our kids. 💙✨
You don’t need special skills or a big commitment—just a willingness to jump in when you can. Even the smallest contributions help create a brighter, stronger school community.
🌈 When families get involved, amazing things happen!
Let’s work together to make this school year the best one yet. 💫
Interested in helping out or learning more? Reach out to the Nike office—we’d love to have you! 🙌

Cold Weather Reminder
As we move further into fall, colder temperatures are on the way! Please remember to check the weather each morning and make sure your student is dressed appropriately for the conditions. When laying out school clothes for the next day, keep in mind that temperatures can be dangerously low for students walking to school or waiting at the bus stop.
For recess and other outdoor activities, we follow the St. Louis Children’s Hospital Cold Weather Guidelines:
-
10°F or below: Students will remain indoors
-
10–20°F: Outdoor time limited to 5 minutes
-
20–32°F: Outdoor time limited to 10–15 minutes
-
32–90°F: Outdoor time allowed as normal
Please note that these temperatures include the “feels like” (wind chill or heat index) temperature.
We want all students to enjoy their time outside safely. Unfortunately, we do not have enough coats for students to borrow. If your child does not have a coat, they may need to remain indoors during recess.
If your student needs a coat, please reach out to our school counselor, Shanna Raeker, by calling the school or emailing sraeker@mvr3.k12.mo.us.
And don’t forget the hats and gloves — they make a big difference!
Inclement Weather Communication
Temperatures are falling and with that comes wintery weather. The Meramec Valley R-III School District recognizes the challenges that result from school being canceled due to inclement weather. As such, we want to share some information to keep you informed about our district's procedures for school closings and delays due to weather.
In the case of inclement weather:
The district administration will make a decision as soon as they can. In general, school officials will not cancel school based on a forecast. However, there are occasional instances where decisions could be made when inclement weather appears to be inevitable.
When possible, the decision to cancel school may be made the night before, usually by 9:00 pm. However, in most situations, a decision isn’t made until the following morning. An early morning decision is typically made by 5:00 a.m. A decision to cancel school will be shared in the following ways: automated phone call, email, text notification through our mobile app, district social media sites, and local news television stations.
The district has a 2-hour late start option. This option would generally be used if the weather forecast indicates the conditions present in the early morning hours will be temporary and improved weather/temperatures are expected.
As we look ahead, we ask that all parents:
Create a plan for unexpected school closures and share the plan with your student. School cancellations due to weather are unavoidable and will happen at some point.
Please watch our district website, mobile app, and social media pages for information related to school closures. We will post periodic updates about the decision making process. We will not respond to questions submitted on social media asking if we plan to have school.
Recognize that snow itself rarely closes school. Snow in the forecast is not our primary concern. Rather, safety, visibility, road conditions, ice build-up, and the status of plowing are more important issues to consider. In addition, the capability of our staff to safely travel to school and for our maintenance department to clear sidewalks and parking lots have a large impact on our ability to have school.
As always, the highest priority for our district is the safety of our students and staff, for whom we will always err on the side of caution.

Be a WatchDOG! 🐾
A WatchDOG Dad (short for Dads of Great Students) is a father, grandfather, uncle, or other male role model who volunteers at a school to help create a positive and safe environment for students. The Watch D.O.G.S.® program is a national initiative that encourages men to get involved in schools by spending a day (or more) on campus helping with things like:
-
Greeting students as they arrive
-
Assisting in classrooms
-
Monitoring hallways, the cafeteria, or playground
-
Providing positive male role models
-
Promoting safety and school spirit
The goal of the program is to increase male involvement in education and strengthen the connection between families and schools.
We’re excited to welcome all parents, grandparents, and family members—men and women—to join as WatchDOG volunteers! You can help greet students, assist in classrooms, and make our school an even better place to learn. 💙 If you are interested in becoming a WatchDog, please use this link to sign up.
