YEARBOOKS ON SALE!!!
At Franklin Academy, we believe in recognizing and celebrating our students for making positive choices and demonstrating the values that make our school community strong. At the end of each quarter, students have the opportunity to participate in a Quarterly Celebration recognizing positive behavior, responsibility, and respect throughout the quarter.
We want to remind families of the eligibility expectations for our Quarterly Celebrations. Students who complete the quarter without receiving a detention or suspension will be eligible to participate.
We also want to remind our students that every new quarter is a fresh start! All students begin each quarter with a clean slate and a new opportunity to make positive choices and work toward participating in the next Quarterly Celebration.
These celebrations are about more than just having fun. They allow us to recognize students who consistently demonstrate good decision-making, responsibility, self-discipline, and respect for others.
We encourage families to continue these conversations at home by reminding students to think before they act, make positive choices, and take responsibility for their actions. Together, we can reinforce our K.I.T.E.S. core values—Kindness, Integrity, Tenacity, Enthusiasm, and Safety—and help our students continue to grow into responsible, respectful, and successful individuals.
We look forward to celebrating our students and their accomplishments each quarter. Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we continue Growing Greatness Together!

Every Minute Matters!
Regular attendance and arriving at school on time make a big difference in your child’s learning. When students are present and ready to begin the day, they benefit from important instruction, classroom routines, and opportunities to connect with their teachers and classmates.
Even a few missed minutes each morning can add up over time. Families can help by establishing consistent bedtime and morning routines, preparing backpacks and clothes the night before, and making on-time arrival a family priority.
Small habit, big impact: Being at school, on time and ready to learn, helps set students up for a successful day!
Spelling Bee
Our annual Spelling Bee will begin next month! Round 1 will take place in all Grade 3-8 classrooms. Parents of students who advance from Rounds 1 and 2 will be notified directly. We can't wait to see our students showcase their spelling skills and wish all participants the best of luck!

Important Safety Reminder: No Spray Products on Campus
For the health and safety of our students and staff, students should not bring or use spray products on campus, including body spray, perfume/cologne, body mist, spray hand sanitizer, aerosol products, or similar items.
These products can cause significant reactions for individuals with allergies, asthma, respiratory concerns, or other sensitivities. Please speak with your child and remind them that spray products should remain at home.
Students who do not follow this expectation may receive appropriate consequences in accordance with school procedures.
Thank you for partnering with us to keep Franklin Academy safe and healthy for everyone! 💚

October: Growing Open-Minded Thinkers at Home
As we settle into a new school year, we are continuing to explore the IB Learner Profile and the qualities that help our students become thoughtful, curious, and caring members of their communities.
This month, we are focusing on being Open-Minded.
Open-minded learners understand and appreciate their own cultures and personal histories, while also being willing to consider the perspectives, values, and traditions of others. They recognize that there is more than one way to see a situation, solve a problem, or understand the world.
Being open-minded does not mean that we have to agree with everyone. Instead, it means being willing to listen, ask questions, learn from others, and consider ideas that may be different from our own.
What Does Open-Mindedness Look Like?
An open-minded learner might:
Listen carefully when someone has a different opinion.
Ask questions to better understand another person's perspective.
Try something new, even when it feels unfamiliar.
Appreciate different cultures, traditions, languages, and experiences.
Consider another way of solving a problem.
Say, "I hadn't thought about it that way before."
Be willing to change their thinking when they learn something new.
How Can Families Support Open-Mindedness at Home?
There are many simple ways to nurture open-mindedness in everyday family life.
1. Encourage Curiosity
When your child encounters something unfamiliar, encourage them to ask questions rather than make assumptions.
Try asking:
"I wonder why they do it that way?"
"What could we learn about this?"
"What questions do you have?"
Curiosity helps children approach differences with interest rather than judgment.
2. Talk About Different Perspectives
When reading a book, watching a movie, or discussing something that happened during the day, ask your child to consider how another person might feel or think.
You might ask:
"How do you think that person saw the situation?"
"What might their point of view be?"
"Could there be another way to understand what happened?"
3. Try Something New Together
Open-mindedness grows when children have opportunities to experience the unfamiliar.
Try a new food, listen to music from another culture, visit a cultural event, learn a few words in another language, explore a new place, or read a story about a family whose experiences are different from your own.
The goal isn't simply to "try something different," but to approach the experience with genuine curiosity and respect.
4. Model Open-Mindedness
Children learn a great deal by watching the adults around them. Let your child hear you say things such as:
"That's different from what I'm used to. I'd like to learn more."
"I hadn't considered that perspective."
"I may have been wrong about that."
"Let's find out more before we make a decision."
Showing that adults can listen, learn, and change their minds sends a powerful message.
5. Make Room for Healthy Disagreement
Family conversations don't always have to end with everyone agreeing. Encourage your child to express their ideas respectfully while listening to others.
Remind them that we can disagree with an idea while still respecting the person who holds it.
A Family Challenge for October
Choose one "new perspective" to explore together this month.
It could be a book, a conversation, a new tradition, a different point of view, a new activity, or an experience outside your family's usual routine.
Afterward, ask:
"What did we learn?"
"Did anything surprise us?"
"Did our thinking change?"
Small moments of curiosity and reflection can help children develop a lifelong habit of looking at the world with openness.
This Month's IB Question
How can I be curious about perspectives that are different from my own?
Together, we can help our children become learners who are not only knowledgeable, but also willing to listen, learn, and see the world through many different lenses.
Happy October, and happy exploring!

Every Minute Matters: Attendance & Dismissal Reminders
Attendance Matters! Beginning Monday, August 31, 2026, Franklin Academy will begin consistently entering tardies and late pickups.
Please review the following important times and expectations:
⏰ Tardies:
Students must be in their classroom by the designated time to be considered on time.
- Elementary (PYP): Students must be in their classroom by 7:30 AM. Students arriving after 7:30 AM will be marked tardy.
- Middle School: Students must be in their classroom by 8:30 AM. Students arriving after 8:30 AM will be marked tardy.
🚗 Late Pickup:
Students will be considered a late pickup if they are picked up after the designated dismissal time.
- Elementary (PYP): After 2:45 PM
- Middle School: After 3:45 PM
Parents/guardians will receive a warning for the first late pickup.
After the first warning, a late pickup fee of $1.00 per minute, per child will apply.
For example:
- 2:46 PM pickup = $1.00 per child
- 2:50 PM pickup = $5.00 per child
We understand that unexpected circumstances can happen. However, consistent attendance and timely arrival and dismissal are important to ensuring that our students receive every minute of instructional time and that dismissal procedures run smoothly.
Every tardy. Every early check-out. Every absence. Every minute counts.
Thank you for your continued partnership and for helping us Grow Greatness Together!
Carline Reminders
As we continue working together to keep dismissal safe and efficient, please remember that arriving as early as 1:00 PM creates a safety concern, particularly when vehicles begin double parking and blocking Miner Road. Please avoid arriving excessively early and never block or impede traffic while waiting for carline.
Please also remember that parking on the roadway near or around the Allstate building is not permitted. This property does not belong to Franklin Academy, and PBSO may issue citations to vehicles parked in these areas. Families may not park there and walk onto campus to pick up students, including registered walkers.
A few additional reminders: DashPass and a Franklin Academy carline placard are required for carline pickup. Students should enter and exit on the passenger side, parents should remain in their vehicles, and all directions from carline staff should be followed.
Please share these expectations with anyone who picks up your child. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work together to keep our students, staff, and families safe! 💚
