Dear Steele Families,

What a wonderful month it has been at Steele! Our Family Reading Night was a huge success with nearly 200 families joining us for a night of stories, activities, and community. The energy in the building was incredible, and the pizza dinner provided by our amazing PTO made the evening even more special. Thank you for coming out and celebrating literacy with us!

Your tremendous support of the Book Fair also deserves a special thank you. Because of your purchases, we will be able to add even more books to our classrooms and provide students with new opportunities to read, explore, and grow.

This week, we look forward to welcoming you for our first evening of Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday. Conferences are such an important time for teachers and families to connect, reflect on progress, and set meaningful goals for the months ahead.

Looking forward, October brings our first schoolwide behavior incentive of the year. If our school can keep office referrals under 50, students will earn a Silly String Showdown—and yes, they’ll get to cover me in silly string! I can’t wait to see them rise to the challenge and celebrate their positive choices together.

👩‍🏫 Parent-Teacher Conferences – Thursday, October 2 (4:00–7:00 PM) & Wednesday, October 8 (4:00–7:00 PM)
📿🏈 Hula Hoop Challenge - Friday, October 3 at Galesburg High School during the halftime of the freshman football game
📚🤝Book Drive - October 6 - 10th - Student Council is collecting gently used books for the Galesburg Public Library.
📅 End of 1st Quarter – Friday, October 10 (1-hour early dismissal)
🍂 Fall Break – No School the week of October 13
Silly String Showdown - October 31st

Letters will come home this week to confirm your time for parent teacher conferences. Reach out to the classroom teacher if your assigned time does not work.

You can still order online using the code below. Also, our PTO has generously offered to purchase a class photo for every student. Since we no longer produce a yearbook, this is a wonderful way for each child to have a keepsake of their class this year. We are so grateful for the PTO’s continued support of our students.

Please download the Galesburg App. When you receive your invitation email, then you can sign up for messaging. All staff will use this for communication this school year. Once you have the app downloaded, you will see your child's teacher and information in the app.

The Shine in #205 program is a way for you to salute any CUSD #205 employee who goes above and beyond what is expected. Whether you are a parent/guardian impressed with that special touch your student's teacher added to a moment, a coworker who thinks their colleague doesn't hear often enough about the great job they are doing, or a community member who witnessed a staff member's commitment to students-you can submit a Shine nomination!
