MAY / JUNE HUSKIE HOWL
STUDENT FOCUS FROM THE PRINCIPAL
As we begin to wrap up another fantastic school year, we want to take a moment to celebrate two outstanding students who have made a lasting impact on our school community—Walker Turnblom and Roland Grabowski.
Walker and Roland exemplify the very best of what it means to be a Shadow Butte student. They are consistently kind, respectful, and thoughtful—qualities that have earned them the admiration of both their teachers and classmates. Whether in the classroom, on the playground, or helping others around campus, these two young leaders show integrity, empathy, and a quiet strength that sets a powerful example for their peers.
While we are sad to see them go as they prepare for the exciting adventure of middle school, we are incredibly proud of the young men they’ve become. Walker and Roland have made our school a better place simply by being themselves, and we are grateful to have been a part of their educational journey.
We know great things lie ahead for both of them, and we can’t wait to see all they accomplish in the years to come. Best of luck, Walker and Roland—you will be deeply missed, but never forgotten!
Principal Jodie Farnsworth
Thank you, Walker and Roland for your outstanding example!

Finish the School Year Strong
As we get to the month of May the weather starts getting warmer and we start looking forward to summer fun. We start thinking about not having to catch the bus every morning and students start mentally checking out from school.
Here are some ideas from imom.com to help you keep your child engaged in this last full month of school:
- Repeat "Every point counts." The finish line is close, but every assignment counts right up to the last day of school. Encourage your child to keep doing their best and teach them it is never too late to bring a grade up (or to let one drop down because they gave up at the end of the year).
- Set one last goal. If your child responds well to goal setting, try setting an end of the year goal. Can they improve a few more points in their math and or english score? Can they complete all their homework until the end of the school year? A specific goal set with a time frame can give them a boost to stay on track and finish strong.
- Buy a new supply. This can be difficult because you are going to purchase a new set of supplies at the beginning of the school year, but somethings as small as a new pencil, or a new notebook might be just the pick me up they need to keep going. You could also ask for the supply list for next school year and buy something they can use for next year.
- Switch up the after-school routine. Maybe a change of scenery would help your child want to finish their homework. As the weather improves they could do their reading outside under a tree, or go to the park after dinner and study there. Mix it up and help them power through.
- Watch your words. How you talk about the end of the school year really makes an impact on how your child thinks about it. Instead of saying "I'm so ready to turn off my alarm for the summer" say things like "We're almost there!" or "Your hard work will pay off!" Fake it til you make it, and your child will imitate your positive attitude about the end of the school year.
NOTE FROM THE LIBRARY
Keep your eyes peeled—I’ll be sending out a list of overdue library books soon! All books will need to be returned no later than May 23 so we can get the shelves ready for summer.
Roaring Readers certificates will be coming your way in the next couple of weeks!
NOTE FROM THE NURSE
Welcome sunny warm weather!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you for all the wonderful donations of clothes and shoes! They are a huge blessing and I'm grateful to live in such a generous community. Keep them coming.:)
For our seasonal allergy sufferers, good luck. I hope you find an antihistamine that doesn't make you sleepy and gives you the relief you need. Remember many of our young ones are also suffering with itchy eyes, and runny noses. They might need something too.
As the weather is so nice, please watch out for mosquitoes, use sunscreen to protect your student's lovely skin, be cautious with water safety, and stay hydrated. We wish you many fun family activities this spring and summer.
ATTENDANCE
If your child is absent for any reason, call the office at 208-365-0877 or email sbeattendance@isd221.net to excuse your child. Thank you for letting your child's teacher know but they do not always have the time to get the message to the front office.
If doctor appointments are necessary during the school day, please bring a doctor's note for our records.
TRANSPORTATION CHANGES - called in by 2:30
- If there are changes on how your children will be going home at the end of the day, those changes must be called into the office at 208-365-0877 by 2:30pm. We cannot guarantee the change can happen after this time.
- If you need to check out your child during recess, we kindly request that you wait until the recess concludes or arrive before recess. This supports the safety of all students, as our duty staff can then focus on their designated supervision areas without any distractions. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
Pick up Procedures
When pulling up in the pick up line DO NOT exit the car, if your student needs extra help, park in the lot closest to the school. This is safest method for all students and keeps the traffic flowing and from gathering on Idaho Blvd.
We ask that parents not park in the staff parking that is located on the corner of Idaho and Mesa so students and parents are not crossing traffic and in between moving cars.
Thanks again for helping us keep our students safe!
SCHOOL LUNCH
If you haven’t yet filled out a Free/Reduced application, they are available on our website, online on Infinite Campus, or at the school office.
