Important Dates

August 6 - Schedules are live in SIS!

August 9 - Incoming 6th grade orientation, 8:30 am - 11:45 am

August 9 - Orientation for 8th graders who were virtual in 7th grade, 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm

August 10 - Incoming 7th grade orientation, 8:30 am - 11:45 am

August 18 - Hixson Open House, 3pm to 7pm

August 23 - First day of School!

6th grade Camp Update

Due to the rise in cases of COVID-19, we have decided to select different dates for 6th grade camp. Therefore, our 6th graders will not go to Camp Wyman in October. We will work with Wyman to select dates in second semester. It is our hope that the status of COVID-19 will be improved enough by then for our students to be able to enjoy the overnight camp experience. The new dates will be shared with parents after they are confirmed with Wyman. Please reach out to Hixson administration if you have any questions.

Hixson's Return to School Plan

Hixson's return to school plan will be released to parents on Monday, August 9, 2021. Dr. Simpson shared the WGSD Return to School Planning Guide with parents and staff yesterday evening. Please be sure to read it when you have a moment.

Schedules are live!

Student schedules can now be viewed on the online portal! A printed copy of student schedules will also be provided at our March to the Middle orientations (August 9 & 10) and Open House on August 18.

To view your student schedule, you must log in to the parent or student portal. Once you are on the dashboard, click the button that says "student schedule".
Underneath the student's identifying information, click on the dialog box next to the word view and select "All".
You will now see the student schedule for both first and second semesters. You will find the team your child is assigned to in the last column on the right.
To view the locker combination that has been assigned to your student, go back to the Dashboard and select "Student Fields". On this page, you will see the locker number and combination.

Please note, your student's team assignment will either say B, I, or U. B stands for Team Bravery, I stands for Team Integrity, and U stands for Team Unity.

If you have questions or concerns about your child's schedule after you've had an opportunity to review it on or after August 6, please contact your student's grade level counselor.

March to the Middle

We are very excited about March to the Middle on Monday and Tuesday. Please see the agenda for these events below!

Hixson March to the Middle New Student Orientations

6th Grade - August 9, 2021

7th Grade - August 10, 2021

Arrival (8:30-9:00) - Moss Field

Students should be dropped off at Moss Field and should enter the gate that is located across from the Rec Center.
Students will find the check-in table for their team. Team names can be found on the portal on August 6th. We will also have team lists to direct students if needed.
After checking in at the table, students will find a seat in the Moss Field bleachers. Adults will be in the bleachers to help promote social distancing of students in the bleachers.

Opening Ceremonies (9:00-9:25) - Moss Field

Informational Rotations (9:30-11:45) - Indoors and Outdoors

Students will be divided into groups of 25 (group numbers will be on name tags students get at the check-in table) and will remain with their group at each station.

Team Building Activities

Students will work together in smaller groups to

Building Tour

Students will take a tour of the sixth and seventh grade indoor spaces.

Snack

Students will enjoy freeze pops and water outside on the recess blacktop. They will learn about lunch and recess procedures.

Lockers

Students will spend approximately 10 minutes in the auditorium (appropriately spaced) watching a how-to video on opening a locker. Students will spend the remaining time at their lockers practicing how to open their locker.

Dismissal (11:45) - Circle Drive

Parents may pick up on the circle drive. The circle drive is on the north side of the building, which is the side that faces 44.
Students will leave their last station and exit the building at the circle drive. There are two exits from the building that lead to the circle drive, therefore there will be two points of exit.

Open House

Hixson Middle School's Open House will take place on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. This is a casual, drop by event. Our families will have the opportunity to meet the awesome Hixson staff, walk the building, take their school picture, set up their lockers, and more! There will also be food trucks available if you would like to purchase a snack!

The following health and safety precautions will be in place for Open House.

Masks will be required during Open House.
Students may be accompanied by one parent per household.
For the purpose of contact tracing, parents will be required to sign in upon arrival.

More details about Open House will be shared with parents next week!

School Pictures

School pictures will be taken during Open House. Picture make-up/retake day will be October 4, 2021. The portal for pre-orders is now open! Please read the following note from Wagner Portrait Group.
