General Information
Parent Teacher Conferences
Save the date for parent teacher conferences! Wednesday, October 23rd and Wednesday, October 30th from 2:30-7:00pm in the MPR. Please note that conferences will be held in the MPR and will be open-house style, so there is no need to sign up for a specific time slot.
Shoe Drive: Gym Shoes for Physical Education Department
This year in PE we are requiring that all students wear the correct gym shoe while in PE class. Doing this will help keep the gym floor intact and keep students safer. We are looking for extra tennis shoes to keep in the PE office for students to use if they forget shoes for a day. Ideally the shoes tie or velcro. If you have old athletic shoes that are in good shape we would love to have them as part of the collection! We are looking for sizes that fit 6th-8th graders (sizes 4-10). There will be a box at Parent/Teacher Conferences and in the office to drop the shoes in.
Think Smart, Spot Truth! A News Literacy Project Collaboration
Coming to CBCS October 23rd to November 8th, 2024!
Empowering students to evaluate the credibility of claims and identify misinformation.
Students will explore how to identify AI generated images, learn how to use 5 factors to evaluate the credibility of a claim, and develop skills to identify misinformation through various activities in the library, direct instruction in Social Studies classes, and optional extension activities. Join us on Oct 23 during parent-teacher conferences in the library to learn more and take part in our kickoff event!
What is News Literacy? News literacy is the ability to determine the credibility of news and other information and to recognize the standards of fact-based journalism to know what to trust, share and act on.

Halo Smart Sensor Monitors
We take safety seriously at CBSS and we are committed to providing a safe, substance free school. The Halo Smart Sensor not only measures air quality (like CO2 and NO2), but can also detect nicotine and THC vapes. These tools are present to help us meet our goal of ensuring a substance free school. If you would like to have more information, or have questions, please contact the office to set up a meeting with Mr. McCune, or email him at smccune@gunnisonschools.net with your questions.
Attendance
Just a reminder to please email CBSSattendance@gunnisonschools.net if your student will be absent or needs to miss any classes.
Parent/Community Access to the Building
Building access is limited to students and faculty with special access granted to school volunteers and parents by appointment. The main office foyer will be the singular access point. Please use the phone in the foyer to notify office staff of your arrival. Visitors are required to check in and out as we are responsible for your whereabouts in the case of an emergency. Thank you for honoring this limited access as we strive to ensure a safe and secure space for our students.
