Fall Happenings
Hey 1R Families!
With the season of gratitude upon us, I would like to take a minute to thank you all for your support over the last few weeks. Fall can be a busy time with lots of moving parts, so thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting our class and our students. đŸ§¡
Our first Open House was a tremendous success and I hope that you all enjoyed getting a peek in to our days at school. Below you will find a link for photos from the day. We have also been busy with visits from the Needham Science Center and Volante Farms. We had the opportunity to head outside to Nature's Classroom in search of oak trees, and we learned about planting and preparing garlic for the coming winter months. Pictures from both events are linked below.
In the next few weeks, we will be working together to build a home/school routine around taking books from our classroom library to practice reading at home. This is a wonderful opportunity for your student to show off their reading skills! You may have noticed that we have been practicing with bookmarks. Books will go to and from school in a ziploc bag that I am recommending they keep in their blue Take home Folders. Please let me know if you would like some ideas for setting up a routine at home. I have also attached a letter below with more information about reading at home.
Thank you again for all of your support!
~Mrs. Rinella

Important Classroom Info!
Blue Folders
Today, your student was sent home with a bookmark in the blue folder. We are practicing taking something home from school and returning it the next day. Soon students will be bringing home 1-2 books a night in a ziploc bag that will go in their blue folder. More information to come about reading homework. For now, let's work togther to set up some routines that will help when we begin bringing books home. As a class, we discussed finding a safe place to keep our books when we aren't reading them...for example, right in our backpack! We also talked about how we treat books that are borrowed from the school. Thank you so much for your at home support with this.
**This folder is not the parent’s responsibility. Students should practice taking it out in the afternoon and packing it up for the morning. Please help your child practice this important routine.
Specials Schedule
Monday: Technology
Tuesday: Spanish and PE
Wednesday: Music
Thursday: Art
Friday: PE and Library
**Please be sure that students wear sneakers on Tuesdays and Fridays for PE. Students should also be mindful that books are returned to the library each Friday.
Reminders
- Please remind your students that toys are not allowed in the classroom or at recess. Toys are best left at home, so they do not get lost or damaged.
- Nightly reading: Students should be reading or read to every day for 20 minutes. (Do the best you can! Life gets busy, but carving out some time and building a routine only helps to strengthen reading skills! )
