Principal's Update to Families
August 2025
Message From the Principal
Please review the image below for our most recent accountability results. For the 2024–2025 school year, Sun Valley Elementary earned a B rating for the fourth year in a row. While we are proud of this accomplishment, our next step is clear—earning an A rating from the state.
While the state only includes Grades 3–5 in accountability ratings, we know that there is a lot of powerful learning happening in PK–2 that prepares students for success once they reach STAAR-tested grade levels. Every grade matters, and the foundation built in the early years supports long-term achievement.
As a campus, we have already met to reflect and discuss strategies for the year ahead. Together, we asked ourselves what we need to start, stop, and continue in order to best support our students and achieve our goal.
We remind our students daily that we are working like an A campus—this means being focused, respectful, responsible, and always giving our best. We are truly blazing the trail to our future as an A-rated campus.
Another important goal for this year is to improve our attendance. Last year, we closed the year with an ADA of 94.8%, and our target is to increase that by 1% to reach 95.8% or higher (our ultimate goal is to reach 98%). Attendance has a direct impact on student achievement—when students are here, they are learning and growing.
Thank you in advance for your partnership and continued support. Together, we will achieve success and look forward to another strong school year!
With appreciation,
Monique Lara
