BOOK CARE & RESPONSIBILITIES BOOK CARE & RESPONSIBILITIES

Please remember that your child should keep their book in their backpack so they have it if their class comes to the library. Books are checked out for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, parents will receive an automated email stating the books are overdue. If students need to renew books, they can stop by the library to do that.

The library is ALWAYS open 7:15-3:00. It is closed daily 11:25-12:25 for lunch duty/lunch and Tues 7:15-7:30.

Birthday Book Club Birthday Book Club

Celebrate your child’s birthday by donating a book to the Scobee Elementary School Library in his/her honor!

The cost is $15 to participate. All donations are used to add more books to the Scobee Library.

  • Complete and return the form (forms can be picked up in the library) with cash payment to the Scobee Library or main office at least THREE weeks before your child’s birthday. The Book Birthday Club program ends for this school year on Friday, April 16th, 2027. (You can turn this in as soon as you want, you don’t have to wait for your child’s birthday)
  • The book your student selects will feature a special bookplate with your child’s name and birthday. The book will be presented to your child at the end of their birthday month, and they will be the first student to check it out from the library. A picture of your child with their selected book will be placed on the bulletin board outside the library, and the book will become a part of our library collection for all students to check out and read!
  • Your student will also receive an extra checkout from the library for the full school year as soon as you turn in the form/money. This form can be turned in as soon as you wish. You don’t have to wait until your child’s birthday month.
  • SUMMER birthdays: May birthdays will be celebrated in April to allow students the opportunity to read their books before the end of the school year. June & July birthdays are celebrated during the student’s half-birthday (December-February). August birthdays will be celebrated during the first few weeks of school or as a half-birthday (in February).

The Texas 2x2 List is a state list of books that are recommended for children 2 years old to 2nd grade. Teachers have a challenge this year to read ALL 20 2x2 books by the end of the school year so their class can be celebrated on our Reading Celebration Board.

Students and parents (remember you can create a library account and check out up to 5 books for a 2 week period) are encouraged to check these books out and read them together. There is a special display in the library with this year's books as well as previous years to read!

Logging Into Destiny Catalog Logging Into Destiny Catalog

Students MUST log into the library Destiny catalog using Class Link. When users click the Destiny Catalog, it should automatically log them in. This is where students can look for books and check their account to see what they have checked out.

Databases Databases

NISD students have access to many databases. They can access them through the NISD portal-NISD Library Services or by going to the Scobee Library Catalog. Databases are NOT solely for research. Students can explore these databases. I will be teaching students the process very early in the school year.

E-Books E-Books

We have several options for students who prefer electronic books. Each of these can be accessed from the Scobee Library Catalog and/or NISD Portal.

  • SORA ( on your portal)
