Jarrell ISD Monday Memo

Cougars,

This Thursday, Jarrell ISD will participate in a statewide drill testing emergency alert systems. This test is coordinated with the Texas Department of Emergency Management (TDEM) and local agencies.

TDEM has requested participation from school districts, law enforcement agencies, local governments, emergency management programs, and any other entities with emergency alerting capabilities.

As part of the test, Jarrell ISD will send an alert through our mass notification system. The message will clearly state that this is a test and no further action is needed. TDEM's testing will occur between 10:00 am and 12:30 pm across the region on April 2. Jarrell ISD will send its test alert at 11:45 am that day.

Getting Emergency Alerts:
• Update your contact information in the Ascender Parent Portal.
• Sign up for local alerts at WarnCentralTexas.org or verify that your account information is current.
• Check your phone’s settings and notifications to ensure Emergency Alerts are enabled.
Each phone model has a different method to turn these alerts on. For iPhone users, click here to learn how to enable them. For Google/Samsung/Android devices, click here. If you have other devices, search "turn on wireless emergency alerts" along with your device's name to find the appropriate settings.

Why It Matters:

Regular testing helps school districts and emergency management agencies:
• Confirm alerting systems are working properly
• Ensure backup systems are operational
• Identify and fix gaps before an actual emergency occurs

In addition to an alert from Jarrell ISD, you may receive alerts from various agencies where you live or work that day.

If you have any questions, please email communications@jarrellisd.org

Have a great week and Go Cougars!
