LMS Weekly Newsletter
May 31, 2026
Dear LMS Families,
It's the final week of the school year! I can't believe we are on the cusp of saying goodbye for summer, and sending our beloved 8th graders off to high school.
This week is FULL of fun and excitement. We have a late start on Tuesday for our final staff meeting of the year - doors open at 9:15 and the school day will begin at 9:30. All of our chromebooks have been turned in, so if you have a few sitting around at home, please send them back to us.
Please see the message from Ms. Szabo below, with important information about the 8th grade end of the year festivities, including promotion.
The 2 hour activity on Friday, June 5th is for the entire school to enjoy, so students will sign up this week for the activity of their choice. We want to celebrate a successful year, but right up until 4 p.m. dismissal on Friday, June 5th, and until students arrive safely at home, all of our school rules apply. Please speak with your student, as we will be this week, about making good choices so we can make sure that we end our year on a positive note for all.
We are so excited to celebrate our 8th graders this Thursday at Franklin High School in the GYM. Our staff will all be rushing over to Franklin from LMS at the end of the school day on Thursday - thanks to our amazing PTA for supporting us by organizing the set up! Please do NOT bring balloons as they are not allowed in the gym - there are alarm sensors in the rafters that we risk setting off if they fly away! Balloon parking will be available in the event that folks forget.
There are a lot of emotions right now and they will build throughout the week as we prepare to close out the year; everyone will be doing their best to keep it together, as it is never easy to say goodbye, even just for now. Friday, I had the extreme pleasure of making an announcement to our school community via VOIP that our presentation to the office of the Superintendent went really well and we have one final step in our renaming - we present to the school board on June 9th and ask that they approve our new name! We will be saying goodbye to LMS and welcoming our new identity as the Brentwood Middle School Bears! Special thanks to the PTA, Site Council, Student Senate, WEB Leadership, Ms. Sullivan and Ms. Gardner, for helping us get this far. Thank you to all who voted, especially our alumni!
Let's finish strong, LMS! The sun is setting on our time together at Lane Middle School, but we look forward to all of the amazing things on the horizon for Brentwood Middle School - Go Bears!
Warmly,
Rosemarie El Youssef

8th Grade Promotion & End of Year Details - from Ms. Szabo
Good afternoon Lane 8th grade parents,
It has been my pleasure this year to be your 8th graders math teacher. As the year winds to a close there are some important dates I would like to remind you of:
Wednesday June 3rd: Top Golf Field Trip
Thursday June 4th: 8th Grade Promotion at Franklin High School
Friday June 5th: Last Day of School (all grades)
Here are a few important details:
For the Top Golf field trip students are provided with lunch. If students would like to bring their own lunch or purchase additional food options at Top Golf they may. Students are asked to leave backpacks and personal electronic devices at school in their lockers. The same school rules apply when on field trips. When we return to Lane, students will take a class photo on the stairs before attending 6th and 7th period classes. We are asking students to wear white for the class photo. All items from lockers should be taken home on Wednesday prior to locker clean out Thursday afternoon.
On Thursday June 4th 8th grade students will have a cereal breakfast together in the cafeteria during 1st period. Each student is asked to bring an unopened box of cereal to share. Milk, bowls and spoons will be provided by the school. Immediately following the breakfast students will practice for promotion. Please make sure your student attends school for this as it is an integral piece of a smooth ceremony. Students will clean out their lockers prior to lunch. After lunch the school day will resume as normal with periods 5-7.
This year LMS is hosting our 8th grade promotion at Franklin High School in the gymnasium. Doors open for families at 5:30PM. We ask that you drop your student off in the roundabout near the gym prior to 5:15PM. (See map below.) At 6PM the procession of 8th grade students will enter through the same door available to families attending promotion, so it is important that you are seated in the gym prior to 6PM or you will have to wait until the procession concludes to enter.
Parking near Franklin is limited. There is another PPS middle school using the Franklin Auditorium for their promotion at the same time, so I recommend dropping off your student as outlined above, finding parking and proceeding to the gym. Parking may also be available at Atkinson Elementary however, you will need to walk across the field to the Franklin gym.
Seating for spectators in the Franklin Gym will be limited to bleachers. Please leave the first three rows of the bleachers for spectators requiring ADA accommodations. There will be an area for photos after the ceremony that we invite you to use. We cannot wait to celebrate the hard work your students put in this year with you!
The final day of school for all students is Friday June 5th. On this day, 8th graders will receive their yearbooks, have a special taco lunch prepared by Mr. Ramos and have an activity block at the end of the day that includes the Student vs Staff Basketball game. It will be a day your student does not want to miss. In order to participate in the activity block students must arrive at school prior to 10AM.
I have appreciated working with you and your students this year. If you have any further questions, comments or concerns please let me know.
See you all soon!

🙋♂️FAMILY INTEREST SURVEY
LMS families help make the middle experience great for our students. There are so many ways you can choose to be involved—from chaperoning a field trip to volunteering at a school event to helping with teacher appreciation. We encourage every family to complete the Family Interest Survey to share how you would like to engage in our school community:
At Lane Middle School, our reward system celebrates students who take initiative and live out our core values of being accountable, safe, and kind. When students demonstrate responsibility for their learning and actions, make choices that contribute to a safe and respectful environment, or go out of their way to show kindness to others, they earn “keys” as recognition for their positive impact. These keys serve as both encouragement and a tangible reminder that their actions matter. Students can save and spend their keys at our student store, choosing from a variety of fun and motivating items. This system not only reinforces positive behavior but also builds a school culture where accountability, safety, and kindness are seen, valued, and rewarded every day.
If you would like to help motivate our students and keep the school store stocked, you can find our Amazon Wish List at https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/VY1AQGAOY394?type=wishlist
