How to Help with Project Grad
Project Graduation needs YOUR help to make this a successful event for our Class of 2025! The goal of Project Graduation is to provide an evening of fun and safety on graduation night. Since 1987, not a single graduate has died from alcohol, drugs, or traffic accidents on graduation night in Sonoma County. The night features live entertainment, casino, beauty room, fortune teller, carnival, prizes, lots of food, games and much more. The Callinan Sports Center is transformed to give our grads an amazing experience. Planning for Project Graduation happens all year long and we cannot do it without the help of the entire community!
How community members can help:
- Sign up for a shift to help set up, work the fun event, or help clean up. We currently have 28 out of 378 slots filled...we need help! Even if you can only take one shift, every bit helps. Please sign up here and spread the word: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050A4EAEAB29AB9-54214514-project#/

Turn In Your Community Service Hours
- Sonoma County Animal Services (SCAS for short) is the county-operated shelter and animal services for Sonoma County. Unlike the humane society, SCAS is a governmental organization with a very tight budget, and they also have to take in any animal that animal control collects. Volunteers can handle the dogs, cats, and/or small animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, etc) in the shelter, each of which requires appropriate training provided by the shelter free of charge. With parental permission, the minimum age for any volunteer position is 16 years. New volunteers must attend a volunteer orientation, complete the Fear Free Shelters training online, and receive animal-specific (dogs/cats/small animals) training from a seasoned volunteer before acting alone. Dogs have three tiers: green, orange, and purple, which indicates how difficult the dogs are. New volunteers start at the green level and need further training to advance to the range. Purple is reserved for the most dedicated and skilled volunteers. Apply at: https://sonomacounty.ca.gov/health-and-human-services/health-services/divisions/public-health/animal-services/volunteer-program
- Community Bikes is a nonprofit organization in Santa Rosa that runs a repair shop and a bike sale business. It receives parts donations and assembles functional bikes to sell at a significantly discounted price to provide more access to bikes to the community. Volunteers there can help organize the parts, build and tear down bikes, and repair them. https://communitybikessantarosa.org/volunteer/
- HackLab Santa Rosa (HLSR for short) is the local hacker community and a Hackerspace in formation. “Volunteers” (let’s call them members from now on) are needed to help run the legal backend (501c3), organize and schedule events, serve on the board, engage the community, and find a place to set up a hackerspace. HLSR is also in dire need of people for accounting and grant writing. https://hacklabsr.org/

Come volunteer for an observatory! The Robert Ferguson Observatory is looking for more volunteers to help at events. Volunteers of any age also have the opportunity to learn how to operate our amazing three telescopes and learn more about astronomy. We also have a need for some marketing/PR-related work. We will have the next new volunteer training in mid-November. Sign up at https://rfo.org/index.php/volunteer/. If you are interested in helping with marketing-related work, or for any other questions, email Stephanie at sd@rfo.org.
