🖤💛 Welcome Back, Bomber Families! 💛🖤

Welcome back, Bomber families! We are so excited to begin a brand-new school year at Midwest City Middle School! We hope you’ve had a wonderful summer and are ready for another year of learning, growing, making memories, and being part of the Bomber family.

As we get ready to welcome our students back through the doors, we’ve put together some important information to help families get started and make the first days of school as smooth as possible.

From arrival and dismissal procedures to student IDs and lanyards, schedules, school expectations, and more, we want to make sure our families have the information they need for a successful start to the year.

Take a few minutes to look through the information below, and let’s get ready for a fantastic 2026–2027 school year!

We also encourage families to stay connected with MCMS throughout the year! Be sure to follow us on our social media pages for announcements, reminders, celebrations, and the latest Bomber news. And don’t forget to check out our school website regularly for important information, upcoming events, calendars, forms, and other resources.

We can’t wait to see our students back on campus and make this year one to remember! Welcome back, Bombers! 🖤💛

Building Hours & Student Supervision

For the safety of our students, adult supervision is not provided before 7:45 a.m. or after 3:30 p.m. Students should not be on school grounds outside of these hours unless they are participating in a supervised school activity.

Morning Arrival

  • Students may arrive at school beginning at 7:45 a.m.

  • Breakfast begins at 7:45 a.m.

  • Students who are eating breakfast should report to the cafeteria.

  • Students who are not eating breakfast should go directly to their Advisory class.

  • School begins at 8:25 a.m. Students must be in their classroom and ready to learn by 8:25 a.m.

  • Students arriving after 8:25 a.m. will be considered tardy and must check in through the main office to receive an admit pass before going to class.

After School

Students must leave the school building and school premises by 3:30 p.m.

Students who are staying after school for tutoring, meetings, clubs, activities, or athletic practices must report promptly to the designated area and remain with their teacher, coach, or sponsor.

Please make sure your student's transportation arrangements allow them to leave campus by 3:30 p.m. unless they are participating in a supervised after-school activity.

Parent Drop-Off & Pick-Up

To help keep traffic moving safely and efficiently during arrival and dismissal, please follow the designated traffic pattern shown in the map above.

Morning Drop-Off

All vehicles entering the MCMS parking lot will enter from the west side of the school off Reno Avenue.

  • Bus traffic will use the designated bus lane along the west side of the building.
  • Parent drop-off will take place in the front drive near the 6th Grade Building.
  • Students should only exit the vehicle in the designated Drop-Off Area.
  • Please remain in your vehicle while in the drop-off line.

Please Pull All the Way Forward!

One of the most important things you can do to help keep traffic moving is to pull all the way forward to the designated unloading area before allowing your student to exit the vehicle.

Please do not stop immediately after entering the parking lot. Stopping early causes the line to back up onto Reno Avenue and creates safety concerns for students, families, and other drivers.

By pulling all the way forward before your student exits, you help:

  • Keep traffic moving
  • Reduce congestion on Reno Avenue
  • Keep bus and parent traffic flowing safely
  • Provide a safer drop-off area for students
  • Get everyone through the line more efficiently

Afternoon Pick-Up

Parent pick-up will take place in the designated Pick-Up Area in the front drive. Please follow staff directions and remain in your vehicle while waiting for your student. For everyone's safety, students should only enter vehicles in the designated pick-up area.

Thank you for working with us to keep arrival and dismissal safe, organized, and moving smoothly. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work together to get all of our students to and from school safely!

Student Dress Code Reminders

As we get ready for a new school year, we want to make sure families are familiar with the district’s dress code expectations. Our goal is for students to come to school dressed appropriately for a safe, respectful, and focused learning environment.

What Students Should Wear

  • Shirts: Shirt sleeves must cover the crown of the shoulder. Tank tops are not permitted. Shirts must provide adequate coverage of the chest and must reach the waist of pants, shorts, or skirts so that no midriff is exposed.

  • Pants & Shorts: Pants, shorts, jeans, and other bottoms must be worn at the natural waist. Sagging is not permitted.

  • Shorts & Skirts: Shorts and skirts must reach approximately mid-thigh length on all sides.

  • Ripped Jeans: Any holes in pants or shorts must fall below fingertip length.

  • Leggings: Leggings may only be worn with a shirt, top, or dress that adequately covers the front and back.

  • Dresses: Dresses must meet the same length and coverage requirements as skirts and shorts.

  • Shoes: Shoes must be worn at all times. Pajamas, slippers, house shoes, and fleece pajama bottoms are not permitted.

  • Headwear: Hats, hoods, bandanas, ear warmers, and similar headwear may not be worn inside the school building.

  • Blankets: Blankets may not be used as jackets or worn during the school day. If brought to school, they must remain in the student's backpack.

Clothing, Accessories & Appearance

Clothing, jewelry, shoes, or skin illustrations (such as tattoos or drawings) may not display:

  • Profane, obscene, or offensive pictures, words, or numbers

  • Nudity or sexually suggestive images

  • Weapons

  • Tobacco or alcohol

  • Drugs, drug-related items, or drug paraphernalia

Clothing, hairstyles, accessories, or other aspects of personal appearance that are disruptive to the learning environment or interfere with school activities are not permitted. Clothing or items associated with gang membership are also prohibited at school, on school transportation, and at school-sponsored or authorized events, including transportation to and from those events.

Please remember that hot weather is not a reason for inappropriate clothing. All Mid-Del schools are air-conditioned, and students should dress appropriately for the school environment.

What Happens If a Student Is Out of Dress Code?

If a student is not dressed according to the district dress code, staff will work with the student to correct the issue.

  • 1st Offense: Warning and an opportunity to change.

  • 2nd Offense: ISR for the day.

  • 3rd Offense: ISR for 3 days.

If appropriate alternate clothing cannot be located at school, a parent or guardian may be contacted to take the student home to change before returning to school. Continued dress code violations may result in additional disciplinary action and may be considered defiance of school expectations.

We appreciate our families' help in making sure students arrive at school each day ready to learn and dressed appropriately for the school environment.

Student IDs & Lanyards

Don’t get caught without your ID! Beginning on the first day of school, MCMS students will receive a school-issued student ID and lanyard. Students are expected to wear their MCMS lanyard and student ID around their neck, visible at all times while at school, on school premises, or attending any school-sponsored activity. Student IDs help us maintain a safe and secure campus by allowing staff to quickly identify students and helping prevent unauthorized individuals from entering or remaining on campus.

Here’s what students and families need to know:

  • The first student ID and lanyard are provided free of charge.

  • Students are responsible for keeping up with their ID and wearing it every day.

  • A replacement ID costs $5 and a replacement lanyard costs $2.

  • Students may not deface, alter, cover, or otherwise change the appearance of their ID. Altered IDs will be considered invalid and must be replaced.

  • A valid student ID is required for admission to school-sponsored activities.

  • Students who do not wear their ID may receive consequences determined by their grade-level administrator.

  • Students may also be denied participation in certain school events or activities if they do not have their ID.

And there’s a bonus! 🎉 Throughout the year, we’ll have special class and school rewards, as well as activities that are only available to students wearing their IDs.

So make it a habit from Day 1: Grab your lanyard, put on your ID, and don’t get caught without it! 🖤💛

Checking In & Out of School

We want to make sure students arrive and leave school safely and that our check-in and checkout procedures are clear for families.

Arriving Late

Students who arrive at school after 8:25 a.m. must enter through the front doors of the main building.

Students will scan their school ID at the Lobby kiosk to receive an admit pass before reporting to class.

Checking a Student Out During the School Day

If your student needs to leave school during the day for an appointment or other approved reason:

  • A parent or guardian listed on the student's enrollment contacts must come to the main building office vestibule to check the student out.
  • Students will only be released to approved adults listed in the student's enrollment contacts.
  • A current photo ID is required every time a student is checked out.
  • Students will not be called to the office until the parent/guardian has arrived and their information has been verified.
  • Please allow up to 15 minutes for the checkout process, depending on the number of people waiting and the location of the student.
  • Students cannot be checked out after 3:00 p.m. Students will be dismissed at 3:20 p.m. when the school day ends.

Updating Approved Contacts

Changes to a student's approved contact list must be made in person by the first contact/person who enrolled the student, or by providing appropriate legal documentation supporting the change.

Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and efficient process for all students and families.

Clear Backpack Requirement

Clear backpacks are required for all Mid-Del middle and high school students in grades 6–12.

The clear backpack requirement is part of the district's efforts to help maintain a safe learning environment for students and staff.

What Students May Carry

Students may carry a small pouch no larger than 5.5 inches x 8.5 inches inside their clear backpack for personal items such as:

  • Cell phones
  • Money
  • Personal hygiene products
  • Other small personal necessities

Mesh pockets are permitted as long as staff can clearly see through the bag.

Athletic Bags & Instrument Cases

Athletic bags and instrument cases must be placed in the designated secure storage location as soon as students arrive at school.

Lunch Boxes

Non-clear lunch boxes are permitted. However, they will be stored in a secure location during the school day, except when students are at their designated grade-level lunch period.

Need Help Getting a Backpack?

We understand that purchasing a clear backpack may be an additional expense for some families. If your student needs assistance obtaining a backpack, please contact Ms. Gilbert at jgilbert@mid-del.net. We are happy to help connect families with available resources.

Attendance Matters!

Regular attendance and being on time are important parts of student success. Students are expected to be present and punctual for all classes each school day.

Reporting an Absence

If your student will be absent, a parent or legal guardian must call the school attendance line as early as possible on the day of the absence.

Attendance Line: (405)739-1786, Option 2

If the school does not receive a call or other contact from a parent or guardian, the absence will be considered pending until the school receives the necessary information.

If you are unsure whether an absence will qualify as excused or unexcused, please contact the principal before the absence whenever possible.

Excused Absences

An absence may be excused for reasons including:

  • Illness or personal injury

  • Medical or dental appointments

  • Court appearances

  • Religious holidays

  • Family emergencies

Documentation is required for an absence to be excused. Documentation should be provided when the student returns to school and must be submitted within five school days of the absence.

Making Up Missed Work

When an absence is excused, it is the responsibility of the student and/or parent to make arrangements with teachers to complete any missed assignments or work.

Tardies Count Toward Attendance

Please make sure your student arrives at school and to class on time.

3 unexcused tardies = 1 unexcused absence

Excessive unexcused absences and truancy may result in disciplinary action and, when required, legal action, including a truancy ticket issued by Midwest City Police.

We appreciate our families' partnership in making regular attendance a priority. Every school day is an opportunity to learn, connect, and succeed!

School Nurse & Health Services

Our school clinic is located in the Counseling Office in the main building of the school. If a student becomes ill or is injured during the school day, they should first get a pass from their teacher and then report to the Counseling Office for assistance.

Medication at School

For the safety of our students, all medications administered at school must follow district guidelines. If your student needs medication during the school day and you are unable to come to school to administer it, the school nurse, principal, or designated school employee may administer the medication when the proper requirements have been met.

Please remember:

  • A Parental Authority to Administer Medication form must be completed and signed by a parent or legal guardian.

  • Prescription medication must be properly labeled with:

    • The physician's name

    • The student's name

    • The name and strength of the medication

    • Directions for administration

  • Small containers labeled specifically for school use may be prepared by your pharmacy and left at school.

  • Medication that has not been prescribed or authorized by a physician cannot be administered by school personnel.

Over-the-Counter Medication

Medications that do not normally require a prescription, such as Tylenol, Ibuprofen, or cough drops may only be administered at school when there is a physician's order or prescription.

These medications must be provided in a sealed, manufacturer-labeled container. The student's name must be written on the container, and the medication may only be administered according to the physician's instructions for that specific student.

If your student needs medication that does not fall within these guidelines, or if you have questions about medication administration at school, please contact the District Health Office for additional information and guidance.
