Important Summer Information
Summer School PreK-8
The APS Summer School site is live. Our GenTeach sites at the elementary schools are full. We still have space at our middle school program which would include our rising 6th graders (current 5th grader). We will also be offering Enrichment Camps and parents can find additional information on the website
Attention 7th Grade Families- Health Science Summer Bridge
We are planning an amazing 4-day, immersive, health science focused Summer Bridge for students in 7th grade that are interested in a career in health care! We spoke with counselors this morning and shared information with them about the importance of the School Links assessment in targeting those specific 7th grade students. This data is critical for us to have by 5/1 to allow for registration and communication with families. Here is more information about the Summer Bridge as well as a QR code for registration!
Staff Position Changes
Greta Barker, 7th/8th Grade Social Studies
We’re excited to share a few upcoming staff role changes for next year. Greta Barker, our current GT coordinator, will be transitioning into a 7th/8th-grade Social Studies position. She’s looking forward to getting back into the classroom and building her expertise in project-based learning in social studies content.
Megan Mitchell, 6th/7th Social Studies
Additionally, Megan Mitchell will be moving from 7th-grade literacy to teaching 6th/7th Social Studies. With a strong passion for social studies content, she is eager to return to her roots and engage students in this subject area.
New Staff Introductions
Alexis Garcia, Family Liaison
Hello Quest K-8 Community,
My name is Alexis Garcia, and I am excited to serve as your Family Liaison beginning in August. I have been working in the district since 2021 and have proudly served as a Family Liaison for the past three years at both Columbia Middle School and Gateway High School. I am also a proud graduate of Rangeview High School, Class of 2020.
Outside of work, I am a proud mom to a 4 and a half-year-old and a 3-year-old, which gives me a personal understanding of the importance of strong school-family connections. My passion lies in building meaningful relationships with students and families and supporting them as they navigate the school system.
I am truly excited for the opportunity to serve this community and look forward to connecting with each of you soon!
Patty Benton- 7th Grade Literacy
I am excited to join the Quest family! I come to you from Aurora Central High School, where I have been teaching Reading Intervention. Prior to that, I taught 4th and 5th grade as well as middle school. I am currently pursuing my Master’s in Teacher Leadership. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, reading, and spending time with my three children. My oldest daughter graduated last year with a double major in Criminology and Social Justice and now works for a nonprofit. My second daughter attends Iowa State University on a full-tuition scholarship, studying Elementary Education. My youngest graduated high school last year and is currently completing his electrician apprenticeship. I also have a full house with my daughter’s dog, Izzy, my son’s dog, Toby, and my own puppy, Maisy May.
Rachel Olsen- School Psychologist
I am a Nationally Certified School Psychologist who has worked in Aurora Public Schools since 2019. I completed my Education Specialist degree in Child, Family, and School Psychology at the University of Denver. I previously attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for undergraduate studies, completing a B.S. in Psychology and B.A. in History. During my time in APS, I have primarily worked in elementary schools as a special education mental health provider. I have worked with students across a spectrum of support needs, including within Significant Support Needs (SSN) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) center-based classrooms.
Outside of work, I love spending time outside with my husband, toddler, and beagle, whether that’s in our backyard or up in the mountains. I’m an avid gamer, including board games and video games – Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing are some all-time favorites. I love a cozy night in with snacks, blankets, and a new TV series to watch. My dream is to someday have a whole room for my arts and crafts projects: crochet, miniatures, stationery, coloring books, and all the other bits and bobs I collect. My husband and I are both from the south originally and we try to get back there at least once a year, to see our families and fill up on southern food. I could probably eat baked mac & cheese and chicken biscuits every day of my life without complaint.
