From Ms. Derner
Thank you to everyone who bought a popsicle, donated online, gave seniors and juniors time to help during lunch, and allowed students to enjoy treats in class.
Your support and flexibility made our Change for Change (Cambio para Cambio) Fundraiser a success! Special thanks to Mr. Kensinger for giving us extra days until October 29th to reach our goal.
I’m excited to share that we raised $15,150, which, once matched by the Hispanic Development Fund, will total $30,300 for Hispanic seniors pursuing post-high school education.
These funds will have a life-changing impact for students who don’t qualify for traditional scholarships. Even more exciting, out of 22 high schools in our division, we placed second, surpassing Olathe School District! Our team of Hispanic seniors and I are extremely proud of this collaborative effort and deeply grateful for your contributions.

Safe & Drug-Free School Climate
To ensure a safe and drug-free school climate, the Belton School District #124 partners with the Belton Police Department and Cass County Sheriff's Department for periodic, unannounced canine-assisted sweeps of school property. This proactive measure is part of our comprehensive effort to maintain a secure environment and is conducted with minimal disruption to student learning. The sweeps are performed without prior notice to students, parents, guardians or staff.
Our commitment is to the safety of all Belton students. For details regarding this procedure, please consult Board of Education Policy JFG: Searches of Students.
Personal Device Policy
Under the new policy, no personal device can be used by students at any point in the school day, from arrival to dismissal. This includes passing periods and lunch time. This rule applies to “personal electronic communication devices."
This update ensures BSD #124 is in alignment with a Missouri law that was recently passed, Senate Bill 68, Section 162.207. Students can keep their device with them, but it must be out of sight and cannot be used at any time.
However, there is an exception to this rule in case of emergencies, or for some other special circumstances. Our school handbook has been updated to reflect the changes, please take some time to familiarize yourself with our policies: beltonschools.org/family.
Please join us in embracing the new policy and help make our classrooms places of deep learning where all students can concentrate.
