Welcome, Mrs. Short! Welcome, Mrs. Short!

Parents,

We would love to introduce Mrs. Short, who will be joining our 4th grade team as the long-term substitute for Ms. Mantica. Mrs. Short will be partner teaching alongside Ms. Yen, and we are so excited to welcome her to our team!

We are grateful to have Mrs. Short supporting our students and working together with Ms. Yen to continue providing a positive and consistent learning experience for our 4th graders.

Please help us give Mrs. Short a warm Bear Creek welcome! đź’™

HOMEWORK

Homework is given out at the beginning of each week on Monday in students’ Blue Take Home Folders (or Tuesday during four-day weeks). Students are expected to complete their homework throughout the week and return it by Friday.

Each week, students will receive both Math and Reading homework. Please help your child remember to bring their completed homework back to school by Friday.

Reading:

Next week, we will continue our novel study of Number the Stars, focusing on reviewing the setting, analyzing the author’s craft, and exploring the plot and how it develops throughout the story.

Writing:

Students will continue to draft their amazing animal descriptive essays.

Writing Prompt: Write a description of an animal and use facts and details to explain why that animal is amazing.

Grammar:

Next week, we will be learning about compound and complex sentences and practicing how to use them to make our writing more detailed and engaging!

Social Studies:

Students will begin learning about the different European explorers and doing a project on those explorers.

Math:

The students have done such a great job having a positive attitude learning long division! It can take a while to fully grasp this concept. Next week, we will wrap up our unit on division and take an assessment. We will also start our next problem solving unit that will review all 4 operations. This will help students review how to pick the correct operation to solve a problem as well as challenge them with multi-step problems. Students will also learn how to represent problems using strip diagrams and equations where the missing variable is represented through a letter. This is an early introduction to pre-algebra. As a refresher, here is our Take Home Letter for Division, as well as a Take Home Letter for the following unit on Multiple Operations.

Science: We will wrap up our unit on Mixtures and Solutions, review and take an assessment. If time, we will start our next unit on Forces & Interactions.
