FINANCIAL FAST FACTS NEWSLETTER
Click HERE for this month's edition of the Financial Fast Facts Newsletter from our District's Treasurer, Mr. George Anagnostou. This newsletter features information about where Strongsville ranks compared to other school districts in Cuyahoga County Effective Residential Tax Rates, and the December 2025 Financial Update. Since our District's fiscal year runs from July through June, December marks the halfway point of the fiscal year making this an important milestone to review our financial health.
Over the last two school years, as part of our District's strategic plan, we launched Financial Fast Facts to keep our community informed about Strongsville City Schools' finances. What began as informative infographics evolved into a video series and now we are adding newsletters. Past Financial Fast Facts can be found HERE.
We hope this newsletter helps to further explain our District's finances. Should you have any questions or need additional information, please reach out to the SCS Treasurer's Office (ganagnostou@scsmustangs.org / 440.572.7021).

DECA DISTRICT COMPETITION RESULTS
All of the students in the SHS two-year marketing program competed at the DECA District Competition last week against approximately 300 students from other high schools in the area. As part of the competition, students took a 100 question marketing test and presented a role play presentation in front of a judge. Both scores were factored into their final score.
Typically, the top 3 students in each event qualify for the state competition. This year, however, our DECA district only had an allocation for top 2. Even with the tighter qualifying process, 44 of the 82 students at SHS have qualified to compete at the state level in Columbus later this month. Click HERE to see the specific competition results and the students moving on to the state competition.

MUSTANG SPOTLIGHT - MRS. JENGER SCHMERSAL, KINDERGARTEN TEACHER AT WHITNEY
Mrs. Jenger Schmersal joined Strongsville City Schools seven years ago and brings 26 years of experience as an educator, starting her career in Columbus City Schools and also having taught in Garfield Heights. Mrs. Schmersal has taught at Muraski and at Surrarrer, and is currently a kindergarten teacher at Whitney Elementary School. She earned her undergraduate degree with a focus on Deaf Education from Bowling Green State University and her master’s degree with a focus on Reading Education from Otterbein University. Though not originally from Strongsville, Mrs. Schmersal and her husband chose to move here 20 years ago and have proudly raised their family in our community. This year they are preparing to send their Strongsville High School senior and four‑year varsity swimmer to Ohio University.
“After spending most of my career teaching third grade in a high‑stakes testing environment, moving to kindergarten was a challenge, but one I approached with the same level of focus and purpose. Knowing what students need when they walk into a third‑grade classroom gave me a long‑term perspective, and I wanted to be intentional about setting them up for success from the very beginning. Building the foundation of their reading education is a responsibility I take seriously. What I love most about kindergarten is witnessing the moment everything clicks - seeing the pure joy in a child’s eyes when they realize they can read independently after weeks of hard work truly feels like magic.”
“Working at Whitney has been an incredible blessing. My team is like family to me. It is a truly collaborative environment where everyone is rooting for one another. The administration is supportive, and the shared commitment to students makes this an amazing place to teach. Whitney came into my career at exactly the time I needed it.”
Thank you Mrs. Schmersal for your dedication to building strong foundations in reading and for being a caring presence for our Whitney kindergarten students. #ModelMustang
