Good People,

We look forward to welcoming you all back to school on Wednesday night from 4:00-7:00pm. Please join us for a quick meeting in the auditorium at 5:00 or 6:00 for approximately 20 minutes. The format for the evening is quite simple: you pick up your paper schedule and go walk your schedule!

In Partnership,

Naida Grussing-Neitzel, Ed.S.

Principal

Maria Sanford Middle School.

Back to School Information Back to School Information

Please see the last two weeks' newsletter for more information about back to school!

Math iReady Diagnostic:

Three times during the year students will take the iReady Diagnostic during Math class as early as the second week in September. iReady is the curriculum for Math and the diagnostic is a tool we use to identify each student’s math strengths and areas for growth. The test is adaptive and adjusts to an individual student’s current level based on their responses. The test is NOT graded. The purpose is to gather information on how to best support your student’s math growth and success throughout the school year. Communication will be sent out before each Diagnostic Assessment in September, January, and May.

Reading Focus:

All students will be expected to have a paper book of choice for school this year during Drop Everything and Read time as well as during any class. Drop Everything and Read will officially start week 3 of the school year so that students have time to go to the media center with their English Language Arts teachers if they need to find a choice book. We encourage students to bring their own choice books to school.

Chromebooks:

Sanford students kept their chromebooks over the summer and new students will be issued a school chromebook in the first month of school. Please make sure you store these in a secure location (we recommend the kitchen) and ensure that they are charged every night. Chromebooks are to be used only when teachers require it.

School Start Time/Entrance:

School Starts at 8:40 and the doors open at 8:30am. Students who bike, walk or are dropped off enter the school at door 4. Door 12 and 1 are used for bus drop off.

Lockers:

All students are assigned a locker by their advisory teacher. Lockers will be located near their assigned advisory class. Advisory teachers will give students an assigned lock during the first week

Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

We are looking forward to seeing you next week!

August 25th 6:00p-7:30p will be our school grounds clean up event. Help us get the school grounds looking good for Open House! We will provide light snacks and hope you will consider staying after to socialize with a $5 burger from Blue Door. Students and adults are welcome! This is a great way for Roosevelt students to earn service hours!

August 27th 4:00p-7:00pm is Open House. Stop by the PTA table to find out more info about how you can get involved! We will be giving away free Sanford yard signs and selling Sanford Swag . Also enjoy some free ice cream treats outside after you see the school.

Our next meeting is September 16th from 6:00p-7:00p in the media center at Sanford. Curriculum night will follow at 7:00p.
