May Weekly Update ~ May 22, 2026
No School ~ Monday, May 25, 2026
A note from Mr. Lee
As we head into Memorial Day Weekend, we hope all of our Carter families have a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable long weekend. Memorial Day is often looked at as the unofficial start of summer, but we still have a lot to accomplish and celebrate here at Carter Middle School over the final weeks of the school year. We encourage all students to stay focused, continue making good choices, and finish the year strong.
We also have many exciting events and celebrations planned as we close out another great school year together. Please see some of the important upcoming dates below:
- May 27 – 8th Grade Mud Hens Field Trip
- June 1 – 8th Grade Holocaust Field Trip
- June 2 & 3 – Allied Arts and Math Finals
- June 3 – Cousino Graduates Visit Carter (9:00 AM)
- June 4 – Social Studies and Science Finals
- June 4 – 8th Grade Informal/Formal Dance (5:00–8:00 PM)
- June 5 – 8th Grade Extended Lunch
- June 5 – 6th Grade Academic Awards Assembly (During School)
- June 8 – ELA Final
- June 9 – 8th Grade Breakfast
- June 9 – 7th Grade Academic Awards Assembly (During School)
- June 10 – 8th Grade Academic Awards Assembly (During School)
- June 10 – 8th Grade Italian Ice at Lunch
- June 11 – 8th Grade Clap Out (10:40 AM)
8th grade parents are encouraged to line up outside and help us celebrate and “clap out” our 8th graders as they take their next step toward high school.
A saying we have used often this year is, “We Can Do Hard Things.” Our students and staff have certainly done that throughout the year. But along with doing hard things, we also have a lot to be proud of and celebrate here at Carter. From academic growth and student achievements to performances, athletics, field trips, and the positive culture built throughout the building, there have been many victories worth celebrating together.
Thank you for your continued support throughout the school year. If you have any questions, please contact the main office. Let’s finish the year strong and continue celebrating all the great things happening at Carter!
Special Remarks from Mr. Syswerda
Our school year is coming to an end and we have had multiple field trips to various locations including the Cranbrook Science Center and Greenfield Village. We have several more field trips coming as well as some "end-of-the-year" activities planned, particularly for our 8th graders. Unfortunately, whenever we have special events, there are typically some students who can't attend because they are not on our earned privilege list. We have been running this list all year long and every 4-5 weeks it resets.
Students who avoid the following criteria are on our earned privilege list for the current period:
-Students who accumulate more than 5 tardies TOTAL to their classes during the evaluation period will not be on the earned privilege list.
-Students who fail to pass at least 4 hours of instruction during the evaluation period will not be on the earned privilege list.
-Students who receive more than 1 day of in-school or out-of-school suspension will not be on the earned privilege list for 20 school days beginning the day they return from suspension.
Several students have expressed surprise recently upon discovering they would not be joining a particular activity. However, we have been running the same program, with the same criteria, all year long. If your child finds out they will not be included in a particular activity because they are not on the earned privilege list, there is a good chance they failed to meet 1 or more of the criteria listed above.
We do plan on running the same program, with few or no changes, next year to determine eligibility for school activities. Please talk to your child about the importance of adhering to school expectations so they don't miss out on the fun activities we have planned.
Summer Discovery
It has been shared with Carter as a resource through United Way that looks like a mix between summer camp and summer school, with a focus on learning opportunities for students. This is a FREE program, and there are several sites throughout Macomb County.
If you are interested in having your student participate, please visit the link for more information and registration details.
Please note: This program is not endorsed or sponsored by Carter or Warren Consolidated Schools.
Lost & Found
Parents, our lost and found is overflowing with clothing, shoes, jackets and water bottles. Please encourage your student to stop by and pick up their missing items. Come June 11th all items left will be donated. We also have a few house keys, glasses and jewelry in the front office lost and found. Please see the photos and see if your student is missing anything.
All items left behind will be donated on June 11, 2026.

Please review the following document and share with parents immediately to provide them with sufficient time to obtain the necessary vaccination requirements prior to the start of the new school year and avoid back-to-school rush.
