Home - Washington Gladden Social Justice Park

In American history, few leaders have been as influential in the fight for social justice as the Reverend Washington Gladden. From 1882 to 1918, Gladden was pastor of Columbus, Ohio’s First Congregational Church, a longtime and current leader in issues of fairness and equality. Fittingly, in 2018, the centennial of Gladden’s death, the Columbus community […]

Reminders Reminders

Cell Phones & Two-Way Devices 📱⌚

Students may not use cell phones or other two-way devices (smart watches) while at school. If devices are brought to school, they must be left in backpacks or lockers (4th & 5th grade) for the entire school day. If your student doesn't feel well they need to get a pass to the office and speak to Nurse Jodi, who will then contact you. Thank you for helping to reinforce this district-wide policy with your student(s).

Illness & Attendance

Please keep your child home if they have a fever, are vomiting, have diarrhea, a contagious illness like strep throat, or exhibit other significant symptoms. They should only return to school after being fever-free for 24 hours without medication and symptoms have subsided. If unsure, contact Nurse Jodi to discuss your child's specific situation at jvanzile@columbus.k12.oh.us If your child has been diagnosed with influenza A or B, please inform Nurse Jodi.

Please send your students bundled up!

Make sure your students have gloves, hats and heavy winter coats for school. Even if they don't necessarily need them during their morning routine, stick them in pockets or backpacks. It's also a good idea to write names on tags if you can. We send students outside for recess as often as possible and they will also be outside for dismissal, dress them warm! If your student is in need of any cold weather items please contact our school counselor, Norma Ortega at nortega7812@columbus.k12.oh.us or Elise Beck at ebeck@columbus.k12.oh.us

Back Up Clothing

It's a good idea to have a back up set of clothing to be kept in your student's cubby/locker or backpack. Students use them after accidents, spills, falls on the playground in water/mud/snow, all types of reasons. We do have some clothing available in the office but are completely out of pants. Additionally if you have any pants sizes XS-XL that your children may have outgrown, we will gladly take them. Especially boys or unisex styles (solid grey/black/blue). Merci!

Toys & Personal Items

Toys and personal items often become lost or damaged here at school. We encourage students to keep toys at home. If your student's teacher allows for such items to be brought into the classroom please realize there is a risk in doing so.

Notes From The Office Notes From The Office

Attendance & Tardiness:

It is so important that your student is at school and on time every single day. Class begins at 9:00am so if you bring your students to school, please arrive before 9:00am if possible. Tardiness costs your student crucial instructional time. If your student is absent please email attendance.ecoleken@columbus.k12.oh.us or call (614) 365-5502 by 9:30am.

Transportation Changes:

If your student will be going home a different way than usual (i.e. usually a bus rider but a caregiver is picking up today) our secretaries must be informed of these changes BEFORE 2:30pm. You may email attendance.ecoleken@columbus.k12.oh.us or call(614) 365-5502.
