Tynes Weekly Updates
October 10, 2025
Greetings from Dr. Borgese
Healthy Lunches, Healthy Learners
Tiger Community,
At Tynes, we believe that what our students eat fuels how they feel, focus, and learn throughout the day. A balanced meal helps keep energy levels steady, attention sharp, and minds ready for learning. Weβre fortunate that our community-based lunch program provides healthy meals at no cost to all studentsβbut we know that some families prefer to send lunch from home, and we appreciate the care you put into making those lunches nutritious and enjoyable.
As a reminder, our District Wellness Policy asks that we avoid fast food items and carbonated beverages on campus. While it can be tempting to grab a quick lunch on the go or a special treat for your child, these options often work against our efforts to promote healthy habits. Weβve also noticed an increase in fast food being dropped off at the officeβplease know that this creates both a logistical challenge and a distraction for students. We kindly ask that lunches brought from home be packed in the morning and sent with your child at the start of the day whenever possible.
Thank you for supporting a healthy school environment where our Tigers can learn and play at their best. For more information about our nutrition guidelines, please refer to the Parent Handbook linked at the bottom of this newsletter.
Sincerely,
Dr. Borgese, Principal

VISION AND HEARING SCREENING
Grade TK, K, 1 (boys color vision only), 2 & 5
The State of California mandates vision and hearing screening for students in public
school. The screening for your elementary school will be conducted on Friday, October
24, 2025 by nurses. The exam consists of visual inspection of the eye, along with a test
for acuity. Hearing testing consists of your child wearing headphones, where tones are
presented, and your child will raise his/her hand.
Parents will be notified by mail if their childβs vision or hearing screen shows a need for
further medical evaluation. If you have any questions, call the Health Services
Department at (714) 996-1551 and speak with a district nurse.
Should you decide that you DO NOT wish to have your child participate in the
above screening; a written note by a parent/guardian will be required to be on file.
Please give the note to the schoolβs health clerk.
Thank you,
Health Services
