Hello everyone! It was wonderful to see so many of your smiling faces during Open House! We have been busy in the art room since the start of school. I hope you've been enjoying the artwork coming home as much as I've enjoyed watching your students create their beautiful masterpieces! Please feel free to reach out to me anytime at sbeebe@stgrsd.org.

Kindergarten

Fall is all about practice, practice, practice! We have done projects reviewing shapes, practicing our gluing, cutting and skills, and even met my friend, Pete the Paintbrush! Now that we've learned that practice makes better, we're combining all of our skills and diving headfirst into some exciting projects. First up: primary & secondary colors! Your kindergarten students are impressing me with their knowledge! 😉

Grade 1

First graders started the year with some bright and colorful color theory projects. They made a silly sun with a rainbow, a beautiful rainbow puzzle piece of art, and now they are working on scarecrows with LOTS of personality! I have to say, I think the scarecrows are my personal favorite. 😊

Grade 2

Second graders have been showing off their creativity! So far this year we have worked on a personalized name glyph, reviewed the zones of regulation by making our own emojis, turned ourselves into Minions and now we are working on stunning fall pumpkins. I cannot wait to send those home so you can enjoy them for the season! 🍂

Digital Literacy with Mrs. Murray💻 Digital Literacy with Mrs. Murray💻

We have started the year off wonderfully in the computer lab! I am amazed at how quickly all of the students have advanced in coding, typing, and Paint 3D! Students will soon be bringing home some Paint 3D artwork and coding projects, so keep an eye out for that. Please email me anytime at amurray@stgrsd.org.

Kindergarten

Kindergarteners have been very busy! We have learned how to use a mouse, how to click, drag, and drop, and the basics of typing. They have even started basic block coding on code.org, and learning how to be a safe digital citizen. They are also starting to use all of the brushes and make some amazing artwork on Paint 3D!

First Grade

First graders are learning many new things this year! We have been advancing our typing skills using Typing.com, using more tools and 3D images on Paint 3D, and getting more advanced with our coding skills. We have even done some unplugged coding that has gone home this year!

Second Grade

Second graders are getting advanced this year! We are moving from basic coding to more difficult coding puzzles, typing full words on typing.com, and using advanced techniques in Paint 3D. We have looked at different types of robots and have even "programmed" each other to make cup stacks with solo cups!

Hello Woodland Athletes and Families!

This is Mr. A., your physical education teacher at Woodland Elementary School. I am very excited about this school year and all the sports, games, and activities we will participate in together!

Students in Kindergarten - 2nd Grade have started the year off by learning our warm-up routines inside the gym and outside on the athletic fields.

Some of the units we have covered so far this year are Soccer skills (juggling, dribbling, and passing) and Frisbee skills. During our Frisbee unit, we have learned throwing and catching skills and a variety of different Frisbee games like Kan Jam, Frisbee Bowling, and Flip the Hoop.

We have also learned about conflict resolvers in P.E. class like how to play the game "Rock, Paper, Scissors" to solve disagreements. We use this tool from time to time and combine it with fun, fitness activities.

During each class, we always spend time talking about our Woodland CARES and how always to show good sportsmanship win or lose!

Our upcoming units include throwing and catching skills, scooter activities, and basketball skills. Please remember to wear your sneakers on your P.E. day!

If you have any questions, please contact me at

Stay Active!

STEM with Mrs. Brown STEM with Mrs. Brown

Hello Woodland families,

Our year is off to an exciting scientific start here in STEM. But you may still be wondering, "what exactly is STEM?" It stands for:

S - science

T - technology

E - engineering

M - mathematics

We will spend the year exploring these concepts in a number of fun, interactive, and hands-on ways.

1st and 2nd graders kicked off the year by using their scientific thinking skills during the Paper Chain Challenge. Kindergarten also participated in a Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Challenge of their own. We learned about the importance of teamwork, cooperation, and trying our best in STEM.

From there we launched into space! Students in all 3 grades have spent the last few weeks learning about the different parts of our solar system. Kindergarten has been learning about the 8 planets, as well as what life looks like with no gravity aboard the International Space Station. 1st grade focused on learning about the importance of Earth's moon, as well as about some of the other very different moons in our solar system. 2nd grade learned all about our neighboring planet, Mars, and about the 5 rovers we've sent there.

As always, I continue to be so impressed by how much your students know and how much they love learning!

If you have any questions or concerns this year, please feel free to email me at

Music with Mrs. Peirce Music with Mrs. Peirce

Hello and Happy Fall!

We are rockin' and rollin' here in the music room! I have really enjoyed listening to the walk up songs shared by our friends so far! Remember, you can still choose a song to be played - we will be listening to these songs all year.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten students have just learned about their 4 voices - whisper, talking, shouting, and singing. We are now starting to explore the steady heartbeat of the music and learning to play some fun follow-the-leader games. We are also exploring the instruments in the orchestra. Check out the video below - it's a great introduction to the instruments and their families.

First Grade

In First Grade, we learned our first 2 music notes - "ta" and "ti-ti". We learn how words and syllables fit in the heartbeat of the music and we are playing a really fun game called Silly Words. In a few weeks, students will have the opportunity to create their own cards for the Silly Words game! Check out a great sing-along video below to practice singing "ta" and "ti-ti".

Second Grade

Second Graders have been learning about the 5 lines and 4 spaces of the music staff. We learned about 2 notes named "sol" and "mi" - what they sound like and where they fit on the staff. We've been singing lots of fun 2-note songs with "sol" and "mi" and we'll be writing our own 2-note songs very soon. Check out our favorite 2-note song in the video below.

Look for another Musician of the Month newsletter at the end of October - I think the students will be extremely excited to meet November's Musical Group! I truly enjoy making music and smiling with your students!
