Jones MS Art Students Compete in Jr. VASE
Jones MS had 33 students compete in the Region 10N Jr. VASE Art Competition held in Plano. Thirty artists achieved top scores and earned medals! Four students also earned Platinum medals, which are awarded to the top 10% of all artwork submissions in each division. Scores were based on both their artwork and their one-on-one interview with a judge. In total, there were almost 1,500 art pieces submitted at the competition. Well done, JAGS!
Fire in the Hole!
PHS ceramics classes had the opportunity to try their hands at an ancient Japanese firing technique called Raku. Pottery is coated with a special glaze and then fired in a gas kiln with open flames! When the pots are glowing red, they are immediately taken out of the kiln and placed in metal cans with paper and covered with a lid. This cuts off the oxygen and causes the clay to absorb all the carbon from the burning paper, creating unique colors and effects on each pot. This entire process takes less than an hour.

MS Theatrical Design Contest Winners
For the first time ever, Prosper ISD Middle School Theatre Arts programs have conducted the Middle School Theatrical Design contest. This contest is modeled after the UIL High School Theatrical Design Contest. Middle School theatre students participate in the marketing, costume, scenic, or make-up design process for a given play from beginning to end. Through script analysis and research, students apply the elements and principles of design, as well as their personal imagination, creativity, and study of education and technology, to create specific renderings and concept statements. This year, the contest prompt required a Marketing Design for the play, Senora Tortuga. Thirty students across the district entered the contest. Ten finalists were selected by a panel of theatre teachers, and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, placements were awarded by an outside adjudicator. Please see the list of finalists below, as well as some examples of their Marketing Designs. Congratulations to the winners and participants! We are so excited to see this contest grow in the future!
