STUDENT DRESS CODE
Below is an excerpt from the HVS Student Code of Conduct:
DRESS - A student shall not dress or groom in a manner, which in the judgment of a building administrator or school personnel, may be harmful to the student or others or disruptive to the educational process.
Students should dress in a manner that is appropriate for the weather and conducive to the learning environment.
Important Guidelines To Keep In Mind:
Shorts and skirts must be long enough for all school activities. This includes: PE, recess, sitting on the floor, and all types of movement.
Shoes should be safe for all school activities such as PE and recess. Closed-toe shoes are highly recommended. Flip flops are not conducive to school activities.
Midriffs should not be showing.
Tank tops may be worn, but should have thick straps, not spaghetti straps.
"Excessive" makeup should not be worn to school.
Clothing with inappropriate or disrespectful sayings, logos, or images are not permitted. This includes but is not limited to: alcohol, drugs, tobacco, weapons, or profanity.
Looking for Volunteering Opportunities??
We are always looking for parents or guardians to come in and help volunteer with lunch and recess. All volunteers must have a cleared CRC on file for the current school year.
Please email Mrs. Greenleaf if you'd like to come in!

Updated CRC Process for 2024-2025
The CRC process has changed. I sent an email out to all parents at the beginning of the school year. I apologize if this was not communicated to staff.
Parents only need to go to the below link and fill out the form. Parents will not get notification if their CRC has cleared or not. They will need to contact the office to find out a status.
Here is the link:

Please let Mrs. Nowak know if you have any questions.
Thank you!
Medication at School
Due to the safety of your child and other children in the building, giving your child medication to administer on their own, or to keep it in their pocket or back pack is NOT permitted. Children often lose things throughout the day and if another child finds the medication and accidentally ingests it, it could potentially be life threatening. Please ensure that all medication is prescribed by your child’s doctor and turned into the Main Office if your child needs to take it during the school day. You can reach out to Mrs. Leece in the Main Office if you have any questions. Please email her directly at shannon.leece@hvs.org
Green Name Tags
Please ensure that you are utilizing your fluorescent green name tag for afternoon pick up. This helps for safety purposes and for organizational purposes in the parking lot. If you need another tag, please reach out to Mrs. Spangler at nicole.spangler@hvs.org She will work on getting you another one.
Donations Needed
We are currently accepting donations of hand sanitizer for our cafeteria. If you have bottles that you would like to drop off, please call the main office or stop by our main vestibule. We appreciate the support!
Important Reminders from Previous Week:
What is P2?
Oxbow Behavior Expectations and Matrix for JK-5
OPC Goal for 24.25
One of our goals for the 24-25 school year, will be to purchase a bike rake for the front of the building.
This will give our students that live in close proximity a place to park their bikes during the school day.
The Fun Run will be a great opportunity to help us start fundraising for our building!
Oxbow Spirit Gear
Be sure to wear your Oxbow gear on Fridays! Here is the link to order:

Birthday Treat Reminder
Birthday Treats
Many parents will soon be reaching out to classroom teachers about birthday treats to help celebrate their child's birthday this school year. Due to the fact that we have many children in the building with various food allergies and health related illnesses, we want to create an environment that is inclusive, supportive and safe to all of our children. With that being said, we encourage parents to send only little trinkets, pencils, stickers, books, goodie bags, etc, instead of food items. Food items such as cupcakes, brownies, etc, will not be accepted due to allergies, etc. This is the same protocol that was in place the last few years here at Oxbow, and we will continue to follow it. Unfortunately, all food items will be returned home with your child. We appreciate all parents wanting to create an inclusive environment for all of our children!
Parking Lot and Dismissal Plans
Thank you to all of our families that are following our parking lot system and procedure. This includes the setup out back on the blacktop, bright green name tags displayed on your visor, staying in your vehicle and keeping up with the flow of traffic.
By having everyone follow the rules and procedures, it helps keep things flowing smoothly and most importantly, our kids safe. Our staff thanks you.
Another great option for those in the district, is to utilize district provided transportation. Please reach out to the HVS Bus Garage to get your child set up with a route 248-684-8200.
If you need to change your child’s afternoon pick up plans, please be sure to call the Main Office at 248-684-8085, no later than 2:00 pm. This will then be communicated with classroom teachers. Late requests will not be taken. This will ensure that we are not stopping buses or placing children on buses when parents want their child to be picked up that day instead. In addition, if your pick-up plan changes from day to day, the best thing would be to email your child’s teacher to keep them informed. Please remember open communication is key!
Please be sure to utilize the parking in front of the building or the North side of the building. Do NOT park in the Staff Parking lot (South side).
If you are new to our building this year, please be sure to view the video in order to have a better understanding of the new flow of traffic. In addition, please remember, that patience with one another is the key to safety for all.
