MESSAGE FROM MS LINDA

Tēnā koutou katoa. Nau mai ki te whānau o te Oratia. Talofa lava. Malo e lelei. Zdravo. Ni hao. Namaste. Kamusta. Greetings Oratia whānau and families.

Thank you so much to everyone who is selling their tickets for the big raffle. There are only a limited number of these to sell, and we have had daily requests for more tickets from families who have already sold their allotment. If you are not going to be able to sell your set of tickets please return them to the office now, so we can redistribute them to the families wanting them. This is such a good position to be in, and we are excited to see who will win those wonderful prizes when we do the draw at the fair.

Keep the White Elephant used goods coming in - our PTA are available on Saturday mornings to accept any of your bigger items such as furniture or household items. The White Elephant/second hand goods stall will be in the hall, and there are already some amazing things in the donations.

Our family friendly week is going well with staff appreciating the lack of meetings before and after school. We have our goal setting interviews coming up next week on Thursday. Our students will be sent home at 12.30pm so please make sure you collect your children on time. Interviews will begin at 1.10pm. Information about how to book a session has been sent home in the newsletter and with teachers' weekly class emails. We look forward to seeing you there.

Take care and stay safe.

Kia kaha, kia atawhai.

Ngā mihi nui, Ms Linda

Internet Outage - MONDAY 16TH MARCH

On Monday 16th March, our school will be upgrading its internet firewall to ensure we continue to have the highest level of online protection for our students and staff.

During the upgrade, the school will not have internet access for part or all of the day. This means our school phones will also not be operating as usual. However, calls to the school will be redirected to a staff member who will be working offsite and able to assist where needed.

Please keep messages and phone calls to a minimum on this day. Onsite staff will have limited access and may not receive emails until the internet service is restored.

Apart from the internet outage, it will be business as usual here at school on Monday.

Thank you for your understanding while we complete this important upgrade to our systems.

GOAL SETTING MEETINGS : THURSDAY 19th MARCH

At the start of the year teachers collect key information on each student from a range of different assessments and data from last year’s teacher. This information helps to set the next learning steps for each child. At our data sharing/goal setting meetings we want to strengthen our home-school partnerships by setting aside time to meet with you to discuss what this term’s learning and achievement information tells us about your child’s next learning steps for term 2. These will be 10 minutes meetings.

To make your booking to meet with your childs teacher please go to www.schoolinterviews.co.nz and use code: s72xp

Please be advised that school will close for instruction at 12.30pm on this day. The buses will run at the earlier time of 12.30pm.

KAREKARE BEACH CLEAN UP - ROOM 17 AND LONE KAURI

When we got to Karekare we made some amazing plant pots. TO make these we:

  1. We got some newspaper and rolled it up with this special wood thingie.

  2. Then we filled it with dirt.

  3. After that we poured a tiny bit of water on the dirt.

  4. Once that was done we poked a hole in the dirt with a pencil.

  5. Lastly we plucked out a small flax sprout and plopped it into the dirt hole.

After that we Went out to the beach to find some plastic and micro plastics. When we were searching for the little factory made things that slowly kill our world {micro plastics} we found a MASSIVE DUNE and everyone rolled down it. It was so fun.

After a while we went back to get rid of the lupins. What they do is they break the sand and kill the plants by taking the nutrients and ruining the wildlife there, so we pulled them out.

We went on a walk to go to a stream. When we got there, people went in the water for a bit and had fun.

Then we went to Lone Kauri School. When we arrived we got to have some lunch and explore the place, they had a swing, a treehouse, and a sandbox. The place was really amazing and unique.

TREES FOR SURVIVAL

Our Enviro group gave the Trees for Survival seedlings a small prune to help them on their growing journey. Thanks to Deborah for coming and supporting with this. We look forward to planting the seedlings in winter time in an area of forest rejuvenation out in the Waitākere region, come winter time. Thank you to Whaea Lee for her mahi with this group.
