Sturgis Elementary Newsletter
November 2024
A Note From Principal Chantal Ligtenberg
Halloween:
Classrooms will be partaking in festive fall activities to celebrate the holiday. We request that students save their Halloween costumes for the evening events. This allows the students less distractions and fear of ruining their costume before the evening festivities begin.
Breakfast Students:
Please remind students to go directly to breakfast in the morning after dropping them off and not to the playground. Breakfast stops at 8am.
The "House System" at Sturgis Elementary:
I am sure you hear a lot about our house system from your students! Once a month we are working on building vertical relationships, between all grades K-4, as well as staff, by intermixing all into varying houses. Each month houses are rotating to different team building activities. Our 4th grade house leaders help lead the chant and explain the character trait for the month. Additionally, each month we award a house winner with points the students earn for good behavior. These students enjoy a dance/popcorn party and have a chance at winning a trip to our book vending machine.
24-25 School Fundraiser:
We had a fantastic fundraiser this year! We understand that it is never a really good time to fundraise, but we are very appreciative of your efforts! The funds we received will allow us to continue with grade level field trips, transporting students to the high school play in the spring, updating STEM materials, registering students for music and math performances as well as the 3rd and 4th grade spelling bee.
Inclement Weather/School Closings
On mornings when school is canceled or a late start occurs, every attempt will be made to notify district patrons by 6-6:30 a.m
Messages will be received via automated messaging system in the event of school closing or early dismissal. Messages will come from the district level. Please let the school office know if you have changed phone numbers recently so we may make those updates in our system. Messages will also be displayed on the Meade School District website (www.meade.k12.sd.us )
Orange Flag Mornings:
Orange flag mornings are days when the weather is not conducive for our students to be out on the playground. Decisions are made based on wind, precipitation, and/or a wind chill below 0. Orange flags are placed near the two entrances to our playground. All students enter through the front doors of the school. Staff will assist students in getting to their locations when inside.
FERPA requirement-ALL parents must complete this form for the 24/25 school year.
