Student Schedules
Tech Tools for Teachers
Before Class
Technical Setup
Preload all necessary tabs, download required videos, and open slideshows. Test all hyperlinks and applications, including the whiteboard tool. Ensure Go Guardian is activated for the appropriate class.
Prepare Virtual Classroom
Prepare "Do Now" directions and have them ready to display. Organize break-out room groups, deciding whether to pre-assign pairs or allow student choice.
Zoom Setup
Open the Zoom meeting 5 minutes early. Test audio and video settings. Prepare to share your screen and have any necessary virtual backgrounds ready.
Beginning of Class
Welcome Students
As students enter the virtual classroom, greet them warmly by name. This personal touch helps create a positive learning environment from the start.
Display the "Do Now"
Display the "Do Now" directions prominently on the shared screen. These instructions should engage students immediately and set the tone for the lesson.
Attendance
Take attendance while students work on the "Do Now" activity. Use this time to gently nudge any students who may need encouragement to participate.
Setting Expectations
Review class expectations and make any necessary announcements. This reinforces the structure of the virtual learning environment and keeps students informed.
Structuring the Virtual Lesson
Translate Objectives
Begin by clearly stating the lesson's objectives in student-friendly language. This helps students understand what they'll be learning and why it's important.
Share the Agenda
Outline the day's activities to give students a roadmap of the lesson. This structure helps them stay focused and aware of what's coming next.
Introduce Topics
Present new concepts or review ongoing topics, using guiding questions to spark curiosity and activate prior knowledge. Begin with a hook that captures students' attention and relates the topic to their lives. This could be a thought-provoking question, a brief video clip, or an interesting fact.
Vocabulary and Mini Lesson
Introduce key terms and conduct a brief, focused lesson on the main concept. Use visual aids and examples to enhance understanding.
Guided Practice
Provide opportunities for students to apply what they've learned under your guidance. This could involve solving problems together, analyzing examples, or participating in a group discussion via breakout rooms.
Assessing Student Understanding
Regular assessment is crucial in virtual learning environments to ensure students grasp the material and identify areas needing additional attention. Incorporate a variety of assessment methods throughout your virtual class to gauge student understanding effectively.
