1st Quarter SOARING EAGLES

At Susan B. Anthony we want to celebrate our students who come to school each day and SOAR by demonstrating our core values of SAFETY, OWNERSHIP, ACCEPTANCE, and RESPECT. We recognize and reinforce students through SOAR tickets, the EAGLE WAY CALL OF THE DAY, and each quarter with the SOAR-ING EAGLE Award. Teachers will be nominating students soon, and parents will be notified later in October if their child is a SOAR-ING EAGLE for 1st Quarter. Families of students invited to join us for a small celebration and all school assembly on Friday, Oct. 30th. GO EAGLES!

SEPTEMBER ATTENDANCE UPDATE SEPTEMBER ATTENDANCE UPDATE

Our attendance goal is 95% attendance each day, and we were very close to meeting that goal in September. In September our attendance rate was 94.56%. Kindergarten, 2nd Grade, and 3rd Grade all met our goal with over 95% attendance. We also had 161 students who have perfect attendance in September. These students will receive a small prize for being here every day, on time, and ready to learn. Please keep working hard to get your child(ren) to school each day. Together we can make our attendance goal, which is part of our School Improvement Plan.

Student Drop-off & Pickup Procedures Student Drop-off & Pickup Procedures

The beginning and end of each school day is a very busy and crowded time around Susan B. Anthony. Our #1 priority is to ensure the safety of our students. In order to do that and have a smooth arrival and dismissal of students each learning day, please review the following reminders:

  • Students eating breakfast at school can be dropped off at Door A beginning at 7:30 A.M. Students can NOT be dropped off before 7:30 A.M., as there is not any supervision. The front doors also remain locked until 7:30 A.M.
  • The cutout area in front of the school at Door A is NOT for parking. It is for dropping off students. Students should exit the passenger side of the car to avoid walking across traffic on Dakota Avenue. Students can be dropped off on the playground beginning at 7:40 A.M. If you park your car to walk to the playground, you are encouraged to use the parking lot or park on the street on the Dakota Avenue and Mark Twain Lane sides of the playground.
  • The area in front of the school on Dakota Avenue (Door A) is designated for parents who are staying in their car to drop off or pick up their students. Cars should not be left unattended in this drop-off/pick-up area.
  • Daycare vans drop off and pick up near the playground gate on Center Avenue.
  • In the morning supervision on the playground begins at 7:40 A.M., and students are let in the building at 7:50 A.M.
  • After school students are not allowed to play on the playground after school unless a parent/guardian is on the playground with them. With over 400 students dismissing, it's not safe to have students unattended and playing on the playground.
  • Please see the poster below and watch this short video about utilizing drop-off lanes at schools in a safe, respectful manner.

Thank you for your help in keeping our SBA EAGLES safe!

Healthy Foods Guide & Birthday Treat Options Healthy Foods Guide & Birthday Treat Options

Healthy Foods Guide

At Susan B. Anthony student safety is very important. While we want students to celebrate their birthdays with their friends, we also want to be sure to keep our students with allergies safe. The Sioux Falls School District encourages families to consider healthy snacks and non-food items. Please see the guidelines below regarding birthday treats. Home-baked goods are not permitted.

We also encourage families to enjoy a lunch with their child. Parents can order a school lunch prior to 8:15 A.M. Commercial "fast food" should not be brought in or delivered during the school day. You are welcome to check your child out at lunch to eat off-site.
