Westfield Principal Kristen Ulery
Westfield families:
We had such a fun week with the All Abilities Fair and Read Across America Week! Thank you to everyone who volunteered or participated in the theme days.
Please take a few minutes to complete the 5Essentials survey. Your feedback is important to us, and if we don't get at least 20% of parents to respond (we are currently only at 5%), we will not receive results. The deadline to complete the survey is Friday, March 13.
Have a great weekend!

All Abilities Fair
Our 2nd annual All Abilities Fair has come to a close and was a huge success! Here is a look at some of the highlights:
- Students listened and discussed books in their classrooms and at the library aimed at teaching about and celebrating our differences.
- Students in grades 1-5 attended the All Abilities Fair. The fair offered students hands-on opportunities to explore a variety of topics including, Sensory Processing, Physical Impairment, Impulsivity, Speech Disabilities and Learning Differences.
- Kindergartners discussed the 5 senses. They participated in activities with their classrooms such as using hearing and touch to identify objects they could not see.
A huge thanks to all the parents who volunteered for the fair, and to all the teachers who helped make the All Abilities Fair such a great experience!
If you’d like to continue the discussions at home to help create awareness and acceptance for all, consider checking out these books at your local library.
Read Across America Week
We had a great time with the Read Across America Week activities this week! On Thursday, we had our big reading day activity. Each staff member chose a book to read, and every student got to choose which story they wanted to hear. Then, after lunch, everyone went to the location where their book was being read to listen to the story and do an activity. It was lots of fun! Thanks to Mr. Mennecke and the teachers who helped coordinate the event as well as our student patrols who helped the younger kids find their reading locations.
Last week to provide 5Essentials feedback
This is the last week to provide 5Essentials feedback. Surveys can be completed through March 13 at https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/. We will not receive results unless we have 20% of parents respond, and we currently have responses from only 5% of families.
To respond, go to https://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/. After selecting the "Parent Survey", choose "DuPage" as the county. When you begin to type our school’s name, it will appear in a drop-down list. Please note that there are multiple schools in DuPage County named Westfield. Be sure to choose the Glen Ellyn school.
One parent per household may participate in the survey. If you have more than one child attending the same CCSD 89 school, you can participate in the survey more than once.

Resources for helping your child through difficult times
Tragedy can affect a nation or a single family. Some crises happen suddenly while others build over time. Each situation can be difficult for children to understand and challenging for families to navigate. Our school has a counselor, social worker, and psychologist available to help students and families with strategies for transparent, age-appropriate conversations. The district has also posted additional resources at www.ccsd89.org/crisis
Students, families can report crises and threats through Safe2Help
Students and families can confidentially call, email, or text the Safe2Help tip line to report bullying, threats, or classmates in crisis. Students or families can call (844) 4-SAFE-IL, (which is 844-472-3345); text SAFE2 (which is 72332); email Help@Safe2HelpIL.com; or submit tips through the online form. Safe2Help submissions are monitored every hour of every day. More info: https://bit.ly/3BPxObO
