A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Families!

What an incredible week it has been! From our first and second-grade family picnics and classroom engagements to the wonderful PreK rodeo, and the support for our Purple Up Military Students, our building has been absolutely buzzing with family involvement.

We couldn't be more thankful for our school community and the strong partnerships we share with all of you. Every time we open our doors to our families, we learn something new, and we cannot wait to continue extending opportunities to bring you into our classrooms.

Thank you so much for your ongoing support and engagement—we truly couldn't do it without you!

With gratitude,

Mrs. Smoot

⭐ STAAR Math Testing is Fast Approaching! ⭐

Testing has been moved due to severe flooding/weather!

On Wednesday, April 22nd (3rd grade) and Thursday, April 23rd (4th grade) (Math Assessment), the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) test will be administered to all students in the third and fourth grades. Make-up testing on Friday, April 24th.

Your child’s success starts with getting a good night's sleep, eating a hearty breakfast, and arriving to school on time. Please do not schedule appointments on testing days.

Due to district policy, all cell phones and other electronic devices will be collected at the beginning of the test period and returned to the student at the end of the day. You may want to consider not sending these items on testing days.

The lunch schedule for all students will change on these two days to accommodate testing. Grade levels may have a different lunch time from their usually scheduled time. We request that you do NOT plan to come eat lunch with your child on these days.

In addition, due to TEA Test security requirements, volunteers are asked to plan around testing days.

We will not be able to have volunteers in the classroom or workroom on these days.

Family Connection

This Month’s Focus: Courage
We are excited to focus on Courage this month! Courage means choosing what is helpful, right, and kind—even when it’s hard or scary. As one of three traits we’ll focus on this year to help students Be Strong, students will also build skills like focus, organization, and goal-setting.

Try this at home:

Families can build courage at home by normalizing fear, modeling brave behavior, and encouraging children to try new or uncomfortable things while focusing on effort rather than outcomes. A supportive environment—where children can speak up, take safe risks, and reflect on brave moments—helps courage grow through consistency and compassion.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS!!

The week of Apr. 7, 2026, our attendance percentage was 94.01%.

Your child's attendance is important to us! We miss our students when they are gone. Our goal is 97% every day, every week!

Additionally, per Texas Education Code (TEC), 25.092, students must attend 90% of the days a course is offered in order to be awarded credit for the course and/or to be promoted to the next grade.

Reporting Absences 🤒

If your child misses school for an excused reason, there are 3 options to notify our attendance office to request the absence to be excused. Send the student's name, date of absence, and reason for absence by either:

  • Emailing the Rose Garden Attendance Clerk, Amber Flores at Aflores@scucisd.org or mailto:rosegardenattendance@scucisd.org
  • Send a written note to school with your child.

We will process the absence notes as quickly as possible. You will receive a unexcused absence alert initially. Once the documentation is received, the absence will be updated.
