May 15, 2026

Dear Mary Hogan Families,

It is so hard to believe but we are actually in the home stretch of the year. The calendar nearly goes to the end of the year, so check out ALL of the events we have on the calendar for the next 3 weeks. Surely more will pop up next week!

One of the special events is on Tuesday, with Field Day. We are so excited to have fun on the fields for the whole day (preschool-2 will be outside in the morning and 3-5 will be out in the afternoon). The weather looks to be HOT! Please send your children in with a waterbottle, suncreen, a hat, and change of clothes ๐Ÿ’ฆ๐Ÿงด๐ŸŒž. (They may get wet during field day so having a change is helpful).

THANK YOU to all the volunteers who are making this event extra awesome!

๐Ÿ’™, Jen

Celebration of Learning

As our school year wraps up, teachers and staff at Mary Hogan would like to invite you to a Celebration of Learning Night May 21st from 5:45 - 7 p.m. Each grade level will post student work in the hallways, the 5th grade Exhibition projects will be on display in the gym, families can pop into the library to play board games, kids can try out the bee bots in the music room, and the students have designed a math test for grown-ups!

There will be a scavenger hunt to complete with free ice-cream treats as the reward. All families that show up will be entered to win a "door prize." We have logic games, marble runs, and robotic kits to give away! We hope to see you there!

Tennis, Anyone?

We were super lucky to have Middlebury Indoor Tennis come this week to offer a unit on tennis to our 4th and 5th grade students. They have been working on paddle sports generally, so it was great to have tennis pros come help our students learn the finer points of the game.

Even when the weather wasn't great, they were playing tennis. Being indoors didn't dampen anyone's enthusiasm!

Lost in the Woods? No way!

2nd graders were out in Battel Woods this week looking for evidence of plant growth. They are studying how plants grow and measuring growth in math and have been learning about biomimicry and how humans learn from the natural world develops ways to solve problems. They had a LOT of fun!

Learning about Coins

Mrs. Raymond's class had a chance to learn more this week about the Cammack family's collection of coins from around the world. Students learned to search for different things on a coin - words, images dates - to see what the country felt was important to put on their money. They also found the origin of the coins on the map. The students asked great questions and made thoughtful observations!

Papermaking

The paper making in preschool continued this week with students beginning to explore how to mix colors of materials together to make paper that had more than one color on it. Students were making maps, designs, and flags. Be on the look out for their paper when you go by their rooms. It is often drying in the hallways.

Thank you, families and MESA!

We were so grateful for the delicious sandwiches and treats that were part of the teacher and staff appreciation lunch on Thursday. I heard many folks saying how grateful they were to not have to pack a lunch and for the tasty meal. Thank you for all of your contributions and making this happen!
