Parent-Teacher Conferences
The end of the first quarter is quickly approaching, and that means it’s time for parent-teacher conferences!
📅 All conferences will be held in-person.
🗓️ This year, we’ve scheduled conferences at the six-week mark to allow for more proactive conversations with families before grades are finalized on report cards.
These conferences are a valuable opportunity to connect, celebrate growth, and partner together for your student’s success.

Safety Spotlight
On September 2, Gering staff dedicated the day to strengthening school safety. The GPS team led a district-wide reunification drill, offered CPR/First Aid certification courses, and guided staff through all NDE-required safety training modules.
As a reminder, our Standard Response Protocols (SRP) outline the clear, consistent actions we take to keep students and staff safe in any situation.
We are proud to share that our district has been recognized by the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) with its highest honor — the Diamond Badge Certification in School Safety.
This recognition reflects GPS’s strong commitment to providing a safe and secure environment for our students, staff, and visitors. Earning the Diamond Badge demonstrates our dedication to the four pillars of safety: prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.

2025-26 Gering Public Schools Budget
Each year, Nebraska school districts follow a budget approval process to ensure transparency and accountability. Due to legislative changes (LB644) and local valuation growth, Gering Public Schools is required to participate in a Joint Public Hearing, hosted by Scotts Bluff County.
This year’s hearing will take place on Monday, September 22, at 6:05 p.m. at the Gering Civic Center. The Joint Hearing takes the place of a traditional budget hearing and is required when revenue growth exceeds 2 percent.
Cliff Notes for the 2025–26 Budget:
Levy: The levy will remain the same. For the third year, the proposed budget will reflect a portion of the levy into the Special Building Fund to prepare for major expenses such as the Northfield roof replacement, track replacement, and other high-cost maintenance needs.
Efficiency: Gering’s expenses per pupil remain just below the state average. The district continues to balance efficiency while providing growth in student opportunities.
Rising Costs: Like all industries, schools are impacted by inflationary pressures that affect daily operations.
Financial Stability: Over the past several years, the district has made significant progress in strengthening its financial position and remains committed to sustaining that stability.
