Constitutional Amendment for School Funding on the November Ballot
This November, Minnesota voters will consider a constitutional amendment to increase school funding statewide, without raising taxes.
Here are a few key facts:
The Permanent School Fund is a trust fund that has supported public education since Minnesota became a state in 1858.
The fund has grown from $675 million in 2010 to more than $2.3 billion in 2026, driven by revenue from school trust lands and investment earnings.
The proposed amendment does not raise property taxes, income taxes, sales taxes, or any other tax. Instead, it proposes to modernize the distribution formula.
The proposal later received strong bipartisan support from the Minnesota Legislature, but requires voter approval because it's part of our state constitution.
If voters approve it, the amendment would increase funding for public schools while preserving the long-term strength of the school trust fund.

For constitutional amendments, if a voter skips the question on the ballot, it counts as a NO vote. We encourage families, staff, and community members to be informed and vote on or before November 3.
