SECONDARY FAMILIES
Hello Elm Creek Families!
Oh how time flies. The end of the first quarter is upon us. I think weβve had a great first nine weeks. I have learned a lot about this great place in my first nine weeks with students. This is a great group of kids that I love working with. We are working hard to do the best we can to help them meet their potential and perform in the classroom. Thank you for supporting us as we make changes designed to help them. GO BUFFS!!
Essential Time:
Remember every student must have all assignments completed and be passing all classes to be dismissed at normal time. If they do not they will have to stay until 4 PM. We want to do everything we can to support them. Please help us by encouraging your student(s) to complete all coursework on time.
NSCAS Data:
The NSCAS data for grades 3-8 from the 21-22 school year will be sent home in the coming weeks. When reading the data please use this document to help you understand the scores. We will resend this link and information when we send the results home.
ACT
This week we had our Fall ACT. This is a big area of focus for us this year. For students to score to their potential we must prepare them, and they must get exposure and practice on this test. We highly encourage you to have your child take this test at least one time their Freshman year, a couple times their Sophomore year, and several times their Junior year. It can even be taken as a Senior. Every Junior at Elm Creek must take it and we administer the test here several times. The next national test date is December 10th and the registration deadline is November 4th. If you are interested in more information go to act.org or let us know and we will do our best to help you.
Activities:
The Winter Sports season is quickly approaching. This means postseason action for Fall Sports. We kick this off this week with a home playoff game at 5 PM this Thursday versus Mullen with the winner moving on to the 2nd round. If we win this week we will be traveling next week and should be seeded somewhere between 10 and 13 in the 16 man bracket.
On Friday our Lady Buffs Cross Country team travels to Kearney for the State Meet. The Class D girls run starts at 1 PM. Here is the schedule for the day: https://nsaahome.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/2022-State-Cross-Country-Schedule.pdf
Last week the girls finished 3rd in their District and qualified as a team. To my knowledge, this is the first ever Elm Creek girls Cross Country team to qualify for the State Meet. Congratulations on a great achievement ladies.
We want to send a huge shout out to our Elm Creek Marching Band on a great season. They finished it off with a Superior rating at the Minden Band Fest this past weekend. These kids and the sponsors put in a lot of time prepping for this, so itβs great to see the success and growth we are seeing. Keep it up.

Elm Creek Public Schools Veteran's Day Program will be on Friday November 11th at 9 AM. We would like to invite all Veteran's to come early and eat a free breakfast on us. The Freshman and Junior class will be serving pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, coffee, and juice starting at 8 AM in the commons for all of our Veteran's as a thank you for your service. We hope to see you there!
Student Lunch Charges
- A reminder for all parents that now that we are back to our regular priced meals this means your children are able to charge to their accounts. Please make sure you have a conversation with them about whether or not you would like them to charge extras and/or aβla carte items to their lunch account. We realize this can add up very quickly. We try to have items for all price ranges, .25, .50, and .75 and extras are still $1. If you wish to not have your child(ren) charge please call the school (308-856-4300). We cannot keep track of what they are allowed to spend.

4th Grade has fun at UNK Fitness Day
The 4th graders had a fun day at UNK Fitness Day learning about being fit and healthy. They learned about serving sizes, the food groups, how to read nutrition labels, hand washing, to be aware of how much sugar is in the drinks we drink, and calorie intake and output. They also had fun playing a variety of fitness games on the Loper football field. Thank you to UNK staff and students, HyVee Kidsfit, and Nebraska Beef Council for sponsoring this event. There were almost 900 4th grade students from area schools that attended this event with our Elm Creek 4th graders.
Career Fair
Elm Creek Career Fair was a huge success. Our neighbors from Amherst and Pleasanton also attended. Thank you to all the businesses that made the day a huge success.

Fire Safety Week!
3rd Grade learns about Fire Safety
Kindergarteners learn about fire safety
Fire Safety Week
The 4th, 5th, and 6th grades learned about the instruments used to rescue trapped people from vehicles. They even got to try them and were amazed at how quiet the machines were. They used teamwork in a simulation the firefighters set up. They had to rescue a victim which they found was very hard and heavy work. Last, they had a blast shooting water out of a fire hose and seeing if they could hit a target and move the target. The students always look forward to visiting the Fire Station and are grateful for the service these men and women do. Thank you!

From the Gridiron
Hello all,
Since the last newsletter, we suffered our first defeat of the season. We lost 30-14 to a physical Twin Loup squad. They are a veteran team and did a good job of taking advantage of our mistakes. I prefer learning from wins, but we can turn this game into a positive by learning from our mistakes and make sure that we keep working hard to fix it in practice and continue to improve before we make our playoff push.
Last week, we traveled to Ansley-Litchfield and got a victory in our last game of the regular season. We won 48-20 and it was a good way to finish the season and head into the playoffs. I liked how we bounced back after the loss to Twin Loup.
Lastly, itβs playoff time! We will be hosting Mullen on Thursday at 5 PM. This will be a tough matchup and I know the boys will be looking forward to the challenge. I am proud of the boys' effort this season to go from winless to hosting a playoff game. I hope to see a lot of fans out there cheering us on.
Go Buffs!
