Greenwood Guide
October 2025 Edition
Principal's Message
Dear Greenwood Families,
It has been a fantastic start to the 2025–2026 school year! We have loved seeing our students in action, learning and growing each day. We were so grateful to all the students and families who came out to represent Greenwood at the KHS Homecoming Parade. It was incredible to see our green shine in a sea of Kennett blue—we truly showed up and showed out! We also enjoyed connecting with many of you at our first PTO fundraiser of the school year at Oasis.
As we look ahead, we are excited to kick off the fall season with another month of learning and growth, along with some fall fun. In the spirit of Rooting, we encourage you to reach out with feedback, suggestions, and ideas—we love to hear from you. Together, we will continue to Grow each day and Rise as one community. Please review October updates and reminders, and reach out with any questions.
With gratitude,
Erin Miller, Principal
Jaime Halpert, Assistant Principal

Arrival & Breakfast
🚌 Bus Riders: Students arrive around 8:25 AM and head directly inside. Those eating breakfast should go straight to the cafeteria.
🚗 Car Riders: Students should not be dropped off before 8:35 AM, as there is no staff supervision prior to that time.
-
If your student is eating breakfast, they may walk directly into the building upon arrival.
-
If your student is not eating breakfast, please have them remain in the car until 8:35 AM. Staff will begin supervision at that time
Dismissal
- Dismissal runs from 3:30–3:40 PM.
-
For car riders, please help ensure a smooth and efficient process by pulling all the way forward in the dismissal lane when possible.
Busses
- Thank you for your patience with delays in bussing! If you continue to experience delays, please notify the office.
Monthly Character Focus
At Greenwood, we focus on a specific character trait each month, building a strong narrative around it across our school community. In September, our focus was Respect, and in October our focus is Responsibility.
We are excited to recognize one student from every class each month as the Citizen of the Month for exemplifying the character trait. On Friday, our very first honorees were celebrated—one per class in each grade—for showing Respect.
This is apart of our Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) program, which is designed to reinforce and reward positive choices and behaviors across our school. PBS is important because it helps create a consistent, joyful, and supportive learning environment where students know exactly what is expected of them. Students can earn Greenwood Gotchas for demonstrating our character traits and Groundhog Habits, and these points can be saved and used for rewards.
Students also had their first opportunity to shop at the Groundhog Store on Friday, choosing small prizes to take home using the Gotchas they’ve earned.
Our Greenwood definitions are:
-
Respect: seeing value in all people and things and treating them with care.
-
Responsibility: taking action and understanding the impact of our choice
Responsibility at Home! You can help your student practice responsibility at home, too!
Here are some simple ideas to try together as a family:
(1) Helping at Home: Talk about small ways to be responsible around the house. You might:
-
Feed a pet or water plants
-
Set or clear the table
-
Put laundry away
-
Get your backpack ready for school
(2) Making Good Choices: Responsibility means making choices that help everyone. Ask your student:
-
What does being responsible look like at home? At school?
-
How can you show responsibility when you make a mistake?
Then, as a family, make a short “Responsibility List” of things you’ll all try to do every day.
(3) Sharing Stories: Everyone shows responsibility in different ways! Take turns sharing:
-
A time you were responsible and proud of it
-
A goal you have for being even more responsible this week
End by celebrating each other—say one thing you notice or appreciate about how someone in your family shows responsibility.
Hispanic Heritage Month
Last week, we continued our learning and celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month with a schoolwide assembly featuring The Mini Chinelos—a performance that highlighted some of our very own Greenwood student dancers. It was a wonderful celebration and a great time for our community.

Homeroom Parents
Homeroom Parents Are Back! We are so excited to bring back Homeroom Parents at Greenwood this year! Each classroom will have one homeroom parent to help build community, celebrate our students, and support teachers in fun and meaningful ways.
Homeroom parents help relieve some duties from teachers while always working under the teacher’s guidance. They will:
-
Partner with teachers to see what’s needed (supplies, guest readers, classroom help).
-
Organize 3–4 class celebrations
-
Communicate with families about celebrations, volunteer needs, and class updates.
-
Support our Winter PTO Raffle fundraiser by coordinating a classroom basket.
-
Help celebrate teachers during appreciation events.
If you re interested, please sign up here: Homeroom Parent Sign-Up Form. We will follow up to let you know if you’re the designated parent for your child’s class. Please note that all homeroom parents will need their clearances on file. Once finalized, we’ll host a brief meeting to solidify expectations and set everyone up for success.
