9.1.25 Providencia Elementary School Newsletter
Dear Providencia Families,
I hope you are enjoying your Labor Day weekend! Thank you so much for attending our TB Clinic, Back to School Night and PTA's Back to School Family Picnic last week! Your participation at all of our beginning of the year school events is a springboard to building a strong home-school connection. We hope you learned a lot about your child's learning goals and grade level expectations for the school year. If you missed Back to School Night:
- please reach out to your child's teacher to share their presentation
- please click here to read and electronically sign the Parent-School Compact
- please check out these Parents' Guides to Student Success from the PTA website
This month, classrooms will be focusing their Social Emotional Learning lessons around our Character Trait of the month, RESILIENCE. Last week I did a schoolwide virtual read aloud titled "After the Fall (How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again)." By talking about the book you can help instill resiliency in your child by describing it as the ability to "bounce back" from tough times and challenges, like an injury or a hard day, and to keep going. Being resilient means being able to handle problems, learn from them, and become even stronger for the next challenge, much like how a baseball player trains to get better!
Please scroll and read below to learn more about our upcoming Apex Fundraiser, Spirit Wear and Assembly and Coffee with the Principal and volunteer opportunities and training! Have a wonderful week!
Respectfully,
Principal Celeste

A Message from the Burbank Police Department
With the new school year upon us, the Burbank Police Department would like to remind the
community that traffic safety around our schools is everyone’s responsibility. By following a few
simple rules and tips, parents and students can assist the Burbank Police in creating a safe
environment for everyone near our schools. The Burbank Police are providing the following “Do’s" for traffic safety near schools:
✓ Be patient, especially in heavy traffic. Slow down, plan ahead, and arrive early
✓ Use the safe delivery/valet drop-off areas when and where available
✓ Have your children exit your vehicle on the right (sidewalk side), away from traffic
✓ Always remember to pull to the curb when dropping children off at school
✓ Stay alert and refrain from using cell phones or anything else that might distract you
✓ Park your vehicle in the appropriate areas, obeying all posted parking restrictions
✓ Obey all traffic laws and speed limits
✓ Consider parking your vehicle away from congested areas and walk your child to school
✓ Always cross the street at the corners and use crossing guards for assistance
School Site Council Members Needed
The School Site Council (SSC) is the group of elected staff and parents/guardians that help develop, evaluate and update Providencia’s Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA). SSC members discuss goals and actions to raise the academic performance of all students and provide input on our Comprehensive School Safety Plan.
Our virtual meetings are held once a month on the second or third Mondays of each month from 3:00-4:00 pm, and all are welcome to attend. This year we have 5 open spots on our School Site Council. It is a two-year commitment (unless you are a 5th grade parent, you only need to commit for 1 year). If you are interested in joining the SSC and/or would like to nominate someone, please click on the SSC Nomination Form no later than Sun., Sept. 15. Once names are collected, a voting ballot will be sent out. Thank you!
