Septemeber is Attendance Awareness Month
Get Up, Show Up, Build Up
Berkeley County Schools is encouraging all students and families to Strive for Less Than 5 Absences! Our goal is to have students in school every day, learning, growing, and celebrating together. This month at Winchester Avenue, students are participating in BUILDING BRIGHT FUTURES TOGETHER; an activity that celebrates each day your student is present at school. Each student will be provided with a GET UP, SHOW UP, BUILD UP block house. The blocks represent the days of school in the month of September. Each day a student is present, they will color in the block that corresponds to the date. Students will earn special recognition when they attend five, ten, and twenty days of school. Our goal is to have all our students present in school every day!
As your student plays an important role in their classroom, your support in reinforcing regular school attendance is essential to their success. We are partners in your child’s education. Thank you for helping them build a strong year!
Winchester Avenue students will complete a house each month.

Plenty of Rest

Attendance Information
We know students may miss school for illness, emergencies, or for religious reasons, but we want to see every student in school every day. Regular school attendance is an important factor in student success at Berkeley County Schools.
If a student must miss school, for one or more days, the student must submit an excuse from his/her parent or guardian stating the reason for the absence in order to receive an excused absences.

What is Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports??
(PBIS) is a positive reinforcement system that supports the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral competence of all students. Students are being introduced to classroom//school expectations and rules. As we move forward, students may receive yellow owl cards for great choices and red owls for reminders. We will have a school store, where students are able to purchase cool items with the yellow owls. We are so excited to implement this new program.
We hope that great choices will be encouraged at home also.
