Baud's Blog Baud's Blog

What a fun evening at our Fall Festival last week! Thank you to all of the families who came out to enjoy the evening together. It is always nice to see our Washington Woods community spending time together outside of the school day. A big thank-you to our PTO for planning and organizing another great family event! We appreciate all of the time and effort that goes into making these events happen for our families.

Just a heads up, with Tuesday being voting day, the local polls might change traffic patterns for morning drop off and pick up. Please plan ahead and be patient if there is more traffic on Grassy Branch than normal.

Parent-Teacher Conferences & Trimester Dates

Parent-teacher conferences are coming up! Unlike our previous open-house format, conferences will be scheduled individually with your child's teacher. These conversations are an important opportunity to talk about your child's academic progress, as well as their social and behavioral growth. Our goal is to connect with every family, so please be sure to communicate with your child's teacher if you have not yet scheduled a conference.

A couple of important dates to remember:

  • November 12: Half day for students and the end of the first trimester.
Dismissal at 11:00, buses leave at 11:15

  • November 13: No school for students as teachers meet with families for conferences

A Quick Pick-Up Reminder

We appreciate our families who arrive a little early for parent pick-up! As you wait, please be mindful of leaving enough space for other vehicles to enter and exit the parking lot. We want to keep traffic moving safely and make sure everyone can get in and out without difficulty. Thank you for helping us keep our pick-up process safe and smooth for everyone!

Mrs. Baud

Clubs - Important Info! Clubs - Important Info!

Thank you to the families that got the exceptions in through School Dismissal Manager. Please make sure you continue to put the changes in. This helps ensure they are dismissed to their club as planned. If an Exception is not entered, your child will be dismissed according to their usual dismissal plan. Thank you for helping us make dismissal run smoothly!

Attendance Matters! Attendance Matters!

Attendance Procedure

Please use our new School Dismissal Manager app to enter absences, late arrivals, and early dismissals. When you use the SDM app to enter your absence, please include the reason. Once the absence is entered in the SDM app, you will not need to email or call the attendance line.

Monitoring Attendance

Please know, we have been monitoring attendance, and are noticing some are getting higher. Based on attendance procedures, we will be sending official letters to families that have 7 or more (excused/unexcused) so far this year. Please know, at this time, this is just to bring awareness. We will continue to work with families individually as needed if absences continue to increase.

We also monitor tardies, and will send letters to those who have had an excessive amount of tardies as well.

We want to partner proactively with families this year to assure our students are at school as much as possible! Please let us know if you need support in any way, and we are happy to work with you.

Music Notes Music Notes

Athletic Shoes in PE and Music

Students experience a ton of movement in both Physical Education and Music classes! As such, it's important that kids wear athletic shoes that can tie and remain securely on their feet. Both Ms. Michaelsen and Mr. Brinkman are seeing a fair amount of flip flops, sandals, crocs, slippers, and dress shoes that are a safety concern to both the child wearing the footwear as well as others that may trip and fall from shoes that have been accidentally kicked off. Please make sure that your child wears athletic shoes on PE and Music Day for the remainder of the year! Thank you!

Follow the WWES Music Room on Facebook to see what kids are doing in class!

Save the Date!

There are many music events on the calendar for this school year! Save the date for your child's event listed below. Contact Mr. Brinkman on TalkingPoints or through email with any questions!

Our Fall Book Fair will run the week of November 9-13. Flyers will be coming home this week. We will be hosting a books-only fair during school hours, and each class will get a chance to shop during the week (look for that info from your student's teacher).

We will also be hosting family shopping hours Thursday noon-3 pm and Friday from 8 am-3 pm, when we will have the toys and gifts that aren't out during the week available for you to shop with (or without) your students! As always, we accept cash, cards, or Scholastic eWallet.

See what we expect to have in stock and set up your eWallet by visiting our Book Fair homepage: www.scholastic.com/bf/washingtonwoodses

IMPORTANT: If your student will be shopping on Monday morning, do not wait until Sunday evening to set up their eWallet. The Scholastic site will crash. It happens every time.
