Hello Parsons Family,

As we begin planning for next school year, we want to remind you that if you would like to provide input regarding your child’s classroom environment, please click on the following link to complete the Class Environment Survey.

This is your opportunity to share any insights or considerations that may support your child’s placement. Please note that class changes cannot be made in August, as creating balanced classrooms takes considerable time and thoughtful planning. Please read the memo below for more information. The class survey will close May 2nd.

Additionally, please complete the K-8 School Improvement Survey sent by the district. You can also find it at this link. Please read carefully! The first response is Strongly Disagree and the last response is Strongly Agree.

Sincerely,
Sarah Aherne

New Chromebook Access for Outside School Hours New Chromebook Access for Outside School Hours

We will soon be implementing a change to how our student Chromebooks for students in grades 2 through 5 will function outside of the school day. We understand that sometimes students need to use their Chromebooks at home for homework or special projects, and this change is not intended to interfere with that.

Later this coming week, we will be implementing a scheduled "downtime" for these school-issued Chromebooks. During this downtime, the Chromebook will temporarily be unusable. Think of it as a good time for the device to "rest" and recharge, just like our students!

The downtime will run every night from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM.

We believe this small adjustment will help ensure our Chromebooks are primarily used for learning activities during the school day.

This is also a good time to remind all our families about the purpose of our district-issued devices. These Chromebooks are intended for school-related activities. We kindly ask for your support in ensuring that our students are using their devices appropriately and that they are not disrupting the educational process through non-educational, unsafe, or illegal use.

If you have any questions about this upcoming change, please don't hesitate to reach out to me directly. Thank you for your continued partnership in your child's education!

MSTEP MSTEP

This spring, students in grades 3-5 will participate in the Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress (M-STEP). This state assessment measures student learning in key subjects like English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science (5th grade), and Social Studies (5th grade). The results help educators and families understand academic progress and areas for growth.

You can support your child by:
✅ Ensuring they get a good night's sleep before testing days.
✅ Providing a healthy breakfast to fuel their focus.
✅ Encouraging a positive mindset—remind them to do their best!
✅ Avoiding scheduling appointments on testing days when possible.

Our PTO has also supplied snacks for testing, mints, and gum to focus. Thank you for your partnership in helping our students succeed!

Visitors in the Building and Background Checks Visitors in the Building and Background Checks

Although we love to have visitors, we remain committed to your children’s safety. Students must enter the building themselves in the morning. Parents and guests must always check in the front office.

As we start to have volunteers in the classroom, please remember that you must have a background check prior to your volunteer date. You can fill out the form and bring a copy of your license to Ms. Veronica. Once approved, you may volunteer. We do background checks twice a year. If you have a felony, you may not volunteer for WatchDogs, field trips, or volunteer in the classroom.
