What we are learning in . . .
Math🔢
We’re excited to begin our Multiplication and Division unit! In this unit, students will learn to multiply two-digit by two-digit numbers and divide four-digit numbers by one-digit divisors using different strategies and algorithms—including the standard algorithm. Students will also solve real-world, multi-step word problems with multiplication or division.
Science🔬
Our 4th graders are diving into the exciting world of Force, Motion, and Energy! Students are exploring how objects move, what causes them to speed up, slow down, or change direction, and how energy plays a role in all of it.
We’re learning about:
-
Different types of forces (like pushes, pulls, friction, and gravity)
-
How force affects the speed and direction of objects
-
The relationship between energy and motion
-
Everyday examples of mechanical, electrical, light, thermal, and sound energy
ELA📚
We’re starting Unit 3, Contemporary Fiction. In this unit, students will read engaging stories while building skills.
Reading & Comprehension: Students will read fiction texts, practicing skills like making inferences, identifying main ideas and themes, analyzing character traits, and comparing events across texts.
Writing & Response: They’ll respond to texts through structured writing—explaining their thinking, supporting ideas with evidence, and organizing ideas clearly.
Language & Vocabulary: Vocabulary study continues with words tied to the texts, and students will use context clues, morphology, and word relationships to deepen understanding.
Grammar & Conventions: Lessons will include parts of speech, sentence structures, and dialogue punctuation, helping students write more precisely and fluently.
Thank you for your support at home—reading and talking about stories together really helps!
Social Studies📜
In social studies, our 4th graders are exploring the rich history and cultures of Texas Native American tribes. Students are learning about how different tribes lived, their traditions, and the ways they adapted to the environment.
