Winter Weather Woes

The January weather has mirrored the December weather and hindered our ability to come to campus. While we are blessed to have not gotten the freezing rain, this ice just won't go away and most parking lots and yards have turned into natural skating rinks.

While we were able to have virtual days during this extended time away from the classroom, if we miss any more days we will be changing Monday, February 16, to a regular school day instead of a day off for President's Day. This is not official but meant to be a notice depending on the winter weather that comes our way over the weekend.

A Jawsome Experience

Mrs. Clatterbuck's Humanities seniors dissected dogfish sharks and discovered fetal sharks inside many of them, offering a powerful, hands-on look at shark reproduction and anatomy. While the smell was rancid, the smiles were plentiful as this dissection learning brought science to life and sparked curiosity outside of the textbook!

Poetry Coffeehouse

After spending a few weeks immersed in a poetry unit studying Dickinson, Longfellow, Whitman, and Frost, Mrs. Beck's junior English composition class participated in a coffeehouse as they read selections from their original poetry portfolio.

GSSV Spirit Wear

The GSSV Spirit Wear Store is open again for the month of February. This is the last time of the year to purchase any GSSV swag. Place your orders and the items will be delivered to campus once they are ready in early March.

Senior Information

Senior Trip

The second payment of $100 (cash or check made out to GSSV) is due when we return from our wintery weather break. The students were emailed and if at all possible, we need the second payment no later than Wednesday, February 4. Please make sure to adhere to this deadline! As a reminder, this trip will be April 20-21, 2026. We will spend two days touring the National Mall and visiting museums and enjoy a group activity and dinner Monday evening -- possibly a Nationals vs Braves baseball game.

Requesting Transcripts

GSSV does not issue transcripts as all of our classes are through SVCC. Our classes are listed on your SVCC transcript. You always have access to your unofficial transcript from your Parchment account on your MySVCC page. Please visit SVCC's transcript page for more information regarding transcripts.

Graduation

SVCC's graduation is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, at 9:30 a.m. at the Joan Perry Brock Center at Longwood University. Grad apps will be completed one day soon at GSSV. Cap and gowns are not available for purchase at this time, and tickets will be needed for graduation. More information regarding both of those items should be posted soon on the SVCC's Graduation page.

Inclement Weather

As we enter the colder weather, this is a reminder of our inclement weather policy. Please check our Facebook page for announcements; a Remind will also be sent if we are delayed or closed.

Remember that the Christanna site in Alberta follows the Brunswick County Public Schools' weather closing and delays, and the John H. Daniel site in Keysville follows the weather closing and delays of Lunenburg County Public Schools.

See our website for more information on our policy.
