Lions' Update
October 8th, 2026
Message from the Principal
Families,
We just finished a wonderful TIGER (Theater, Guidance, Education, and Responsibility) performance, and our students had a great time listening to and singing along with the talented performers. Ask your child what they learned about being kind, persevering when things are hard, and supporting their friends. You might be surprised by how much they remember!
Walk to School Day was a HUGE success! It was a chilly morning, but we still had lots of students, parents, teachers, and police officers walking together. Thank you to all of our families who walked with their students and/or brought them to one of the drop-off locations. It was wonderful to see so many people coming together to start the day!
It was also Fire Safety Week, so we invited the West Lebanon Fire Department to visit MLS and teach our kindergarten and first-grade students about fire safety. Our students enjoyed learning from our local firefighters and hearing important safety reminders. We are so fortunate to have dedicated firefighters and police officers who help support our students and families in the Lebanon and West Lebanon communities. We appreciate all they do for our school!
A reminder that we do not have school on Friday, October 9th. Our teachers will be spending the day learning and working together during professional development. We are also off on Monday for Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples’ Day, which means a four-day weekend for our families!
The weather is looking very fall-like, so I hope you have a chance to get outside and enjoy the beautiful fall colors! Last week, our second graders had a great time teaching me all about why leaves change from green to red, orange, and yellow. They were the experts, and they loved sharing what they had learned!
Have a wonderful four-day weekend, and enjoy your time together as a family!
Sincerely,
Katie Roach

Math Challenge 2026-27
General Information
Welcome to the Lions Pride Math Challenge! All students in grades K-4 are invited to participate in the Math Challenge at Mount Lebanon. The program is FREE, and no sign-up is necessary!
The Math Challenge is an optional math enrichment program for students at Mount Lebanon Elementary School. It includes a series of challenging, engaging math problems that allow families to enjoy doing math together.
The challenge encourages problem-solving strategies, such as drawing pictures or models, making organized lists, identifying patterns, working backward, using logical reasoning, and using the guess-and-check method. Each challenge includes 10 to 18 problems, arranged by difficulty level, allowing students at different levels to participate.
Students who participate in the challenge will become recognized members of the MATH PRIDE and earn small prizes for completing each challenge! Work hard, tackle every math challenge, and earn your invitation to a special end-of-year celebration! More importantly, they will gain confidence in themselves as mathematicians and will have an opportunity to challenge their brains!

Lions Club Vision Screening
The Lions Club will be visiting Mount Lebanon Elementary School on October 26 to provide free, non-invasive vision screenings for our students. This quick and easy screening helps identify potential vision concerns that may affect a child’s learning and development.
If you do not want your child to participate in this screening or have questions, please reach out to Nurse Caitlin at cmcgarry@sau88.net.
We are grateful to the Lions Club for supporting the health and well-being of our students!
