Please take a moment to VOTE for the next School Site Council parent/community members. There are two open seats. Thank you to our candidates for their willingness to serve and support our school community! VOTE HERE
We will have our first School Site Council Meeting on Tuesday, September 1st from 3-4pm.
This week I interviewed some 3rd grade students to learn about how the start of the year has been for them, what they've enjoyed most so far this year, and anything we can do as a school to make it better. The students all had incredibly positive things to share. Here are a few things some of our 3rd grade students are enjoying about this school year:
- "I like having my friends from 2nd grade in my class"
- "Our teacher uses Dojo points and we get to earn prizes as a class"
- "We do a lot of activities in class like our Social Studies lap book and Fun Friday Art"
- "I like learning to type on the Chromebook and playing at recess"
Attention 2nd & 3rd grade families, the after school Drama program is now open for 2nd and 3rd graders to enroll for the fall show! Please see the PTA section at the end of this newsletter for the flyer with more information on how to sign up.
A big thank you to our PTA for hosting the Community Picnic & PTA Resource Fair last Friday. It was a beautiful evening and so great to see so many parents and families here to support our Cherry Chase students!
We have our first Friday Flag on Friday, September 4th at 8:20am on the blacktop area. Families are welcome to join and stand behind the classes. Mr. Nelson's 5th grade class will be hosting this first Friday Flag!
Warm Regards,
Ms. Crawford
Congratulations! Cherry Chase is officially a CA PBIS Silver Award School!

Junior Coach Program Updates
Our Junior Coach application and selection process is officially complete! We had over 80 applicants this year with up to 30 open spots. The selection was made in a collaborative effort between Coach Tommy, the 4/5 teachers, and the school administration. Students who applied last week were notified of their status yesterday at the end of the day.
We are so proud of everyone who took the initiative to apply.
- Returning JCs: Official shifts begin this coming Monday, August 31, with their first meeting on September 8th.
- New JCs: Official shifts will begin in after the first meeting on October 20th.
Thank you to all of our families for supporting our student leaders!
For students who were not selected as Junior Coaches at time time, we shared how proud we are of them for stepping forward, taking a risk, and showing an interest in serving as leaders on our campus. We talked about how leadership isn’t dependent on having an official Junior Coach badge. How they show up each day, support others on the playground and in the classroom, and model being safe, respectful, and responsible all matter.

REOCCURING REMINDERS & INFORMATION:
Daily Belongings & Item Drop-Offs
Please ensure your child arrives each morning with everything they need for the day (lunch, water bottle, jacket, homework, etc.). To minimize classroom disruptions, office staff cannot deliver forgotten items to students during school hours.
If you must drop off a forgotten item:
Use the Drop-Off Cart: We have a cart our office staff will put the items for your child to pick up.
Remind Your Child: Instruct your child to check the cart during breaks or lunch (outside of the office hallway door).
Teacher Notification: You may email the teacher as a heads-up, but please note they may not see messages while instructing.
Reminder for K-3 Friday Early Dismissal:
When picking up your K-3 student at 12:45pm on Fridays, please remember that our 4th and 5th grade students are still in class. Please pick up your child and then immediately exit campus. There is also an active PE class occurring on the blacktop during this time, so please be mindful of this and walk around the blacktop area. Thank you for understanding!
NWEA & Boost Reading Assessments:
The NWEA Math and ELA Benchmark testing window for students in grades 1–5 is August 20–September 4. These assessments provide teachers with a beginning-of-year snapshot of what students know and are ready to learn, helping guide instruction and set goals for growth throughout the year. Family reports will be sent home by your child’s teacher after September 4. You can learn more about NWEA and how to understand the family report.
Explaining the NWEA Parent Report
Amplify Boost Reading - 1st through 5th grade students will complete a Boost Reading beginning-of-year assessment between August 20 and September 4 (Kinder Boost is postponed at this time). This short assessment helps identify each student’s current literacy skills and creates an adaptive, personalized learning path that reinforces the explicit literacy instruction students receive in class daily. Students will use Boost for about 30 minutes per week during class. Headphones with microphones will be provided, or students may bring their own. Families will have an opportunity to learn more about Boost and the Amplify literacy curriculum at our next Principal’s Coffee on September 25th at 8:15am.
