LAST CALL: Make Your Voices Heard TONIGHT! π’
REMINDER: Please strongly consider making your voices heard at the upcoming community engagement sessions hosted by PPS leaders. In person and virtual options are available.
The district is in the process of figuring out how to βrightsizeβ schools, which means some schools in PPS will need to close as a result of the ongoing budget cuts.
Although the PPS director of multilingual services reassured me that he has not heard of any discussions that may impact DLI schools, I think it is always best to make our voices heard when the opportunity arises.
Click here to review some talking points to consider.
Thank you for your ongoing support.

PTA Equity Committee: Please Join Us On April 28th! π
Wondering if this event is for you? Neurodiversity includes ALL humans with a brain, so that means you! This is an opportunity for ALL families to discuss the unique ways our own children navigate school today.
Still not sure if this is for you? Below is a preview of the questions we will be discussing in small groups. If you have a personal experience you'd like to share, OR you're curious to hear what other families are experiencing, come join us!
The goal is for us to learn more about each other's experiences at Richmond to help us better navigate together the challenging conditions within public schools today.
If you are interested in learning more about what the PTA Equity Committee does, please join us for this event! We are seeking new members to help us create an inclusive learning environment for all students.
RSVP not required, but it is helpful for planning purposes in regards to food orders, seating, etc.
REMINDER: Staff Meeting Snack Sign-Ups 5/5 πΏ
Our Early Release Wednesdays this spring were turned into regular full days of school, so although we do not have any more early release staff meeting days, we will continue to have our 1st Tuesday staff meetings that take place at 2:45pm.
If you would like to sign up to provide snacks for our next staff meeting, it will be on Tuesday, May 5th, which also happens to be during Staff Appreciation Week! π
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our staff meeting snacks this school year. Your delicious acts of kindness brought so much joy to our teachers. We appreciate you!
Updates From Our Black Student Union π
BSU Session
BSU youth played board games again. Board games are special to our youth because board games allow youth of different grade levels to build community and learn together. Games also allow us to create more fond memories in our room 200 space.
Lunch from BSU parents at Love Belizean (website)
In a moment of apparent levity, one youth shared that she would always be excited to go to school if lunch food was this good. Our students gave us permission to share leftover chicken with their teachers.
Social Emotional Learning Lessons With Our Counselors π
Last week (and for some classes this week) our School Counselors pushed in for another SEL lesson.
Kindergarten learned about the parts of the brain, including the Wise Owl (prefrontal cortex) and the Guard Dog (amygdala). We practiced ways to recognize body signals and make good choices when feeling upset.
In 1st grade students discussed the difference between small, medium and big problems, and practiced ways to solve the smaller ones on their own.
In 2nd grade Ms. Matty read The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson, and led a discussion around diversity and inclusion.
In 3rd grade students listened to A Kids Book About Racism, by Jelani Memory and discussed ways they can identify and interrupt racism.
K-2 Earth Day Author Visit 4/20 π
In honor of Earth Day Ms. Ais, one of our favorite substitute teachers in PPS, visited us this week as a special guest and the author of the book Theo Rio Loves the Water! The book's main character Theo guides the reader through some of his favorite experiences playing in and observing water. He also invites students to think about the different ways water impacts the world around us.
Our K-2 classes had a blast dancing and singing with Ms. Ais!

Message from Our Health Team: picking up medication π
Dear Parent/Guardian,
As we get closer to the end of the school year, we want to make sure that your students have their medications with them over the summer. Please put a reminder on your calendar to pick up your studentβs medication from the health room before the end of the school year. These must be picked up by the last day of school, or they will be disposed of over the summer - we cannot keep them at the school over summer break. If you cannot come pick up medications on the last day of school, please reach out to the health room and we can help come up with a plan to get the medications back home with the student.
